Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Amazing new tech demo of Wii Motion Plus

Awesome

when he said in the demo the WM+ does everything the old one does only better - does that mean from a development perspective it's applied the same way so we could plug it straight in and make controls tighter and more responsive in say SSX blur?

definitly a first day purchase for me - and when he said visit our website tosign up for a free evaluation copy - does that mean devs can get their hands on it now to try out?

If then both of these points are extremely positive.

I really hope they can use the WiiMotionPlus in Red Steel 2.

Ubisoft already announced they will.

Thanks for telling me that! You made my day!

Guys, this is *exactly* why Wii Sports:Resort will include Motion+ "in the box":

 - it will demonstrate/explain to the public WHAT this peripheral does, and WHY its needed

 - it will sell 5-10m units (alone) by Xmas '09 - setting up a nice "install base" for Motion+ games

 - not to mention extra units that will be bought to play Resort multiplayer (i.e. two player swordfighting).

Its only going to take one more BIG game to bundle a Motion + with it - say the next Zelda or Mario - and just about everyone with a Wii, is going to end up with (at least) one of these add-ons.

I predict around 10% of games will "require" it, and maybe another 25%-35% will "optionally" use it (to enhance gameplay/accuracy).

...

Have to assume it has to be "programmed for", as the gyroscope generates additional data that the Wiimote doesn't have originally. So it won't be enhancing "older" titles that doesn't support it.

"Here's these balls. I can hit them hard..." is a new internet meme, just go look at Kotaku.

On topic, this vid really has gotten my hopes up.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

The sword demo is pretty much what many of us dreamed about from the start for a Star Wars game. It's a shame that the upcoming SW games won't have this, but hopefully they will either create a new game or add on shortly after release of the M+.

Forget Wii Sports, etc... do you guys realize that this could essentially replace the MOUSE as we currently know it?!? Imagine rather than clicking on a static 2-D plane for all your applications you can "reach into cyberspace" for stuff on your desktop... all kinds of 3-D applications are possible, for example I use programs like AutoCAD for architecture and house designs... with a program that fully realizes what the Wii Motion Plus is capable of, I could create a fully interactive 3-D design in no time rather then draw it in 2-D and "render" it into 3-D.

This is the future my friends, not just for games but for pretty much everything computer-related... how can you NOT be excited about this stuff?!?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

There should be a lot less flailing and a lot more deliberate and accurate user input by implementing this.

From a design standpoint, I think this will be exactly what some developers were expecting/hoping from the platform.

It's essentially what I falsely thought Nintendo was providing when the Wii first rolled out, which has been my main source of disappointment with the platform.

I can't stress how much I feel motionplus should become standardized as a part of the default Wii platform.

Like it's been said already, it all depends upon the software and the creativity of the developers now.

Developers can't rely on people owning this, so how are they going to fully support this. Look at all the Wii supporters who said an Xbox 360 motion sensor controller would never do well because its NOT STANDARD. The only way this will work is if about 20 million people buy this thing.

This is my signature.

As long as it's more like Minority Report than Johnny Mnemonic.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

wow, looks awesome!
