Forums - Gaming Discussion - Game Rankings Page and other stuff - thoughts, ideas, improvements?

I want to summarize 2 points here:

1) More stringent rules for counting votes.
This is pretty much a must, otherwise people might come to this site just to mock the current voting system.

2) A histogram chart showing vote counts.
This way people can look at the chart and decide for themselves what the average score doesn't say.

Statistical methods only go so far (as an academic I like them, but that's another story); but I just thought of a good practical reason for the top 5% bottom 5% cutoff. It serves as a deterent--when people see their hate votes aren't being counted, there's a chance they would stop doing it.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Your rankings are going to hell ioi. Looks like people are just running proxies or some sort of script to change IP's to vote and give all the games 1. most of the games are between 5-6, games are dropping whole points in just the last 8 hours. By the end of the week the whole list is just going to be games with 3's. Until some somebody puts barbie horse adventures in and gets it to stay above 9.

Of course this is based if the rankings use IP's to judge if you voted or not or is it per account, and if it is per account make these changes

Just put the rankings on hold, and find some way for people to vote, you need 50+ posts and an account for over 1 month. This will stop random people with proxies to stop ranking games. And only allow true members to vote on the list. Its not very hard to make programs to make random voter accounts. Hope this helps.

About the game rankings:

I've noticed that it is possible to vote on the same game more than once. This is a problem because that way someone can artificially raise or lower the score of a game. If it would be possible to vote only once on each game for every user, some fanboyish behavior would even out over time. So far we have only one game above an average of 8.5!

Is it possible to restrict every user to only one vote per game? And if, I think it would be a good idea to set all games back to 0 votes, when this is implemented.

That's why you never follow the user score; Only follow the net score. The average score of multiple reviews, far exceed the voting average, single reviews, and even your own, personal opinion, when it comes down to closing in on the facts.

I noticed, that the top 4 titles have scores about 90, starting with the fifth the scores are lower than 9. Seems there is something wrong.

About the fanboys, that only vote 10 and 1: Such a user could have a weighting to his vote, so his vote counts only the half (or whatever part) of a user, that has a good distribution about all possible scores.

1) Limit the amount you can vote on a single game to once a week.

2) Keep a database of who votes low on games: perhaps just the last 10 for each game. That way, we know who lowballed/highballed.

anothe rthing for the voting would be to record everyones votes.

For example so it can be seen how they vote ie if they are fanboys or not.

ie giving all nintendo games 10 but playstation games 1.

That way if there are such stupid wierd looking data those users can be banned for voting or warned.

Limit it to people with only a certain number of posts.....maybe 10, so new accounts cannot be registered to vote multiple times.

Seems to be fixed now, thanks.
