they both make money ON THEIR OWN + if microsft want software they'd make more money on both systems......... so why would a billion dollar company not only share there money with sony + kiss their ass when they have more money and confine themselves to only sony when micrsoft made SNES GAMES at one time? will not happen........

While we're speculating, why would MS 'merge' with Sony? If MS weakens Sony enough through attacking it's Playstation brand, maybe Sony's stock dips a bit. Sony's market cap is around $40B, and MS has somewhere around $20B in cash(not counting M&A money.) Who's to say MS's intent all along wasn't to soften up Sony for a hostile takeover bid? They'd need to raise around $20B-$30B, but with a big name like Sony, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem. That's how MS diversifies and moves itself into conglomerate status like the big boys such as GE.
They have been making noise about getting into consumer's living rooms, right? What better way than to buy the people who make the TV's? It has nothing to do with Nintendo and everything to do with Sony. The Wii was just a nice little gift to MS to move the process along faster.


Now THAT is speculation. It's actually pretty fun. :)

THIS CAN NEVER HAPPEN and i'll tell you why. First of all its not just the companies that hate each other. Its also the Fanboys that hate one another. If the two companies merged this would result with the creation of a new system under one new name. I bet you a million $$$$$ that the (true) Fanboys wouldn't even think about buying the new councel because they would be to betrayed by each individual company

sony and nintendo NEVER merged sony wasn't even a 3rd party CO, and just cause the ps1 was made to be a nintendo doesn't mean their partners or were going to be nintendo had to buy that shit and obviously they didn't.......

There was a better chance of Microsoft and Nintendo uniting last gen than there is with Sony and Microsoft.

They are like two arch-rivals while Nintendo just sneakily takes the prize.

Not a chance, Microsoft brought out the xbox not so much to make a profit, but to stop Sony's console and home entertainment products from taking market share away from Windows PC's
