I'm predicting Zelda will break the records, and get close to a NSMB sales level over time. I think its going to be a genre/platform defining title.

The only thing this year that will have a shot at NSMB's success in Japan is Dragon Quest IX. In fact that could very well end up selling more than NSMB. Zelda PH will probably end up selling 1.2-1.5 million in Japan. Great, but not the phenomenal numbers you're expecting. Zelda is having to come back from not have a million seller in Japan since Ocarina of Time. Maybe this game will have the impact of making the series more popular once again in Japan, but it's not going to go from TP selling 500k to PH selling 5 million.

NSMB is ridiculous expectations. That game is going to sell 6 million in Japan and maybe 14 million worldwide--possibly more, its legs could hold into a 3rd and 4th year... It is Mario, afterall.

5 million sales WW would be a big success for PH. Only 2 Zelda games have ever sold that much (OoT at 7.6, LoZ at 6.5), and Twilight Princess combined sales will make 3.

And in Japan, no Zelda game has ever broken 2 million. I'd say that's a realistic (if bullish) goal for PH, given the popularity of DS.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

This is great I will buy this as soon as it comes out. How could you not.

300k preorders for Everybodys Golf 5? Well, that 500k prediction by whoever made it wasn't wrong then.

I thought Zelda games always did well, didn't the one on the Wii break a million in like an hour, or something?

Worldwide: Yep!

Japan: It hasn't even reached 750k...

EDIT: When is this coming out for EU?!... Cause im anxious to get this one! Now im glad i kept my DS whilst i haven't played it since like half a year!

THE NETHERLANDS

Yay Digg effect, crashing the servers hehe.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

hope it will (but prolly not) oversell mario. i was kinda disappointed with the new supermario bros. the mini's where the same as mario 64ds and the game itself was not realy mario for me :(.

life isn't complicated, just face it simple.

I shudder to think how many DQIX will sell. There's an urban legend in Japan that the goverment banned any new dragon quest games being released on any day but a Saturday, because they where afaid kids and adults would skip work and school to buy and play the game. It's false, but SE does indeed not release any new DQ game on any day but a Saturday for those reasons. And with the DS having Japan in the palm of its hand, DQIX will stay at the top of the Japanese chartz for a long time.

i depends how much copies will be available, dragonquest games never stayed that long in the top 10 list, considering the amounts the games sold. everybody wants it and they want it immediately.
