New Super Mario bros? It sold 4.71 million in Japan...I hate to see what flying off the shelves is if that isn't?

Final fantasy 3  sold 1 million in Japan on the DS

Final Fantasy XII(DS) has already sold 500K in Japan.

Yoshi's Island 800K+
Mario Kart over 2million

so forth

traditional games do sell in Japan.

Anything Mario still sells great. FF has done well, but not fantastic. The DS has sold 18m units in Japan, after all. The PS2 sold ~22m yet all FF games sold around 2.5m copies at least. The GC sold ~4m units yet the Mario games came in at ~900k in Japan.

Attach rates for traditional games are falling in Japan. I don't see how else to look at those numbers. Other than NSMB (a fantastic game in its own right), nothing else is coming close.

Like I said, I'm interested to see how this translates to the Wii and DQ in particular.

DQS isn´t precisely traditional. It will probably appeal to many DQ fans, but scatr many of them too. Though it could have bigger appeal with casuals.

The issue to most of us (like rocketpig) are that puzzle games and various ones of the sorts (Mojipittan, Prof. Layton, Phoenix Wright, et all), do very well, and have uber-strong holds, and just do fantastic for being cheap budget titles typically, whereas the strong traditonal games, for mid-level ones do poorly.

I would seriously buy a DS for PH, since I love the old classic Zeldas (LTTP). Regardless of what anyone wants to say, 400k for a Zelda game in Japan is far more important than pretty much any other traditional game on the DS, sans NSMB. Considering the string of bad luck Zelda has had in Japan (MM, WW, TP), having a DS game become a guarentee 1m is very very very very important for the franchise. I hope that Nintendo realizes that Zelda, provided it's done right, can be a huge worldwide boon on the DS. 1m is assured, as I've said, but for all we know, it could pull NSMB-like legs (which I hope it does), and blow past 2m. PH is a guarenteed 1m seller in the US and Europe, so it's exciting to see a DS game in the making that could blow pass 5m worldwide. I always love traditional games that get "non-game" numbers.

Bring back the Zeldas and Marios that were 10m sellers every time!

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

how bad did Majoras Mask and Windwaker sell?

for Twilight Princess is this just wii version or a combination of Wii and GC versions

I'm predicting Zelda will break the records, and get close to a NSMB sales level over time. I think its going to be a genre/platform defining title.

I don't see it touching NSMB numbers for a few reasons:

1. It's not Mario

2. It's 3D, which always scares away some of the casuals

3. It's a lot longer and more in-depth than NSMB

PH should be a great game that classic gamers will love but I don't see it stretching out to numbers like the super-accessible NSMB.

I see PH being the most popular in the Zelda franchise in Japan, and agree that it wil not have NSMB numbers- though I wish it would.

I think it will get about 5-6 millions. Though I´m not entirely sure if it can actually beat TP. TP has about 3.5 millions in Wii, and 1.5 in GC, and it can easily get 1 more million with its legs and the holiday season. If PH gets some good legs in Japan and Europe though, I can see it getting past 6.

We were talking Japan only. I am not sure about WW just yet.

Man, how many more days did it have in tracking for Media Create? 350k in two days, man theyll probably eat through that last 50k in a day or so. They only shipped 400k. Wonder if they will be able to get a second shipment out fast enough to keep from having shortages.
