Forums - Gaming Discussion - The best next-gen gaming system is also the most expensive. FACT!

I've enjoyed quite a few PC games in my day, but there are limits which the PC has which consoles do not have.

The PC is trapped with the keyboard and mouse interface. It has been for two decades now, and looks to be hooked on it for the forseeable future. That's a pretty good interface to be stuck with, but it isn't optimized for gaming. In fact, it can get downright uncomfortable, since it demands you sit at a desk and many of us use a keyboard and mouse for hours every day at work and wouldn't like to risk injury by using them for even more hours in our leisure time.

Oh sure, you can hook up any input device you like to a PC as long as you can find drivers for it. Just don't expect any software to take full advantage of that device, because all the developers will assume their customers will use a keyboard and mouse.

The second weakness of the PC is multiplayer. PC kicks major ass at online multiplayer, but it absolutely stinks at local multiplayer. The assumption is a single user sitting at a desk, and you almost never get a game which will accept multiple input devices or display a split screen. LANs are fun, but they require a pretty massive effort to get all that hardware together.

The final issue with PC games is quality control. Supporting the myriad of hardware configurations is a challenge, and playing driver roulette to try to get a game to work sucks for the consumer. Furthermore, some of us really don't like the "publish it, then patch it" model which is now creeping from the PC onto the HD consoles. I know some people like this model for the bug fixes and added content, but some of us prefer to buy games which are finished, polished, and full-featured on release.

In the end, it comes down to values. I've been a PC gamer for quite a while, and I still play a few games on PC, but I'm swinging towards consoles now in a major way. I just find that consoles better represent what I want out of games these days.

It doesn't play a single Nintendo game. Major Nintendo games are consistently rated among the best games of all time. A Wii is therefore needed to play many of the best games ever (through GC backwards compatibilty and VC too). If there were no consoles, only PCs, then you would miss out on the chance to do so.

Therefore your statement is not a FACT. It is an OPINION, which means other people can disagree.

assuming you put that much stock into reviews (which is a tad foolish) you can still play nintendo games:

on your PC: NES, SNES, N64 & GC games (not sure how well the GC emu runs, though)

on your original xbox: NES, SNES & N64 games

on your PS2: NES, SNES games

on your PSP: NES, SNES, N64 games (not sure how well the n64 emu runs, though)

Also, to add to the list, EnDecrypt for example allows you to play Nintendo DS games like Pokemon diamond USA on your pc.

Why don't you just say that you think the PC is tha Best because you can play a lot of illegal games on it??

nothing stopping you from buying the game and still playing it on your PC. Doesn't have to be an 'Illegal' game. I'm happy to give money to people who make a good game :) but I choose where I want to play it. Perhaps you are upset because every single one of your arguements trying to prove the 'wii' is better than the PC has been found wanting. if so... I am sorry, please feel try again.

The point I am making is that the basis of everyone who tries to claim their consoles are the best primarily point out these two features/qualities:

1. Which platform has the MOST games and MOST diverse(for those who think there are no RPGs on the PC: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/list_rpg.html)  selection.

2. Most realistic and cutting edge technology aswell as highest quality in graphics at best resolution.

3. The most 90+ games on metacritic. (thats for wii fanboys who bother me by never being able to make an opinion of a game without reading a review)

all 3 of these would suggest the PC as the victor. As said in title... the best gaming system is the PC and it is also the most expensive. Both of which are true except for the second which depends on how rich u are.

I am a Gamer... I play games and not consoles. I have a PC and Console on which I game... I like games. End of Story!

Why do PC fanboys constantly feel the need to post threads about the alleged superiority of their chosen platform?

Because they spended $2000 on it.. and are enoying games as much as the Kid who paid $249 for his Wii..

Almost no one spends $2000 on a PC.. I even would bet that only 1%(or less) of PC owners bought have ever bought a $2000 PC. I'm a big PC gamer and I have never bought a PC over $1100 (and that's including monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS, etc...).

And today PCs are cheaper than ever, with high-end PCs only costing around $1200, instead of the $2000 of 5 years ago.

PC games are also cheaper than ever. Nowadays you see many games being released at $30 or $40 price point, while HD console gamers are stuck on buying them at $60.

I never tried to prove that the Wii is a better system.. it's a different system... with unique games & abilities to it.. like the PS3 and the Xbox360 has.. that the PC don't have.. but you don't get that the best next-gaming sytem for a lot of people isn't a PC..

Agreed.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

* I have a dual shock style controller which I use to play devil may cry 4 on the PC. It is available for less than $8. I also have a logitech driving wheel + pedals + gears that I use for racing games. Nothing stoping anyone from getting the same however, it would be more like the consoles are only stuck with some sort of crontrolers which they have been for the last 20 years. A keyboard and mouse would open brand new possibilities for the console.

** that is also untrue. I have a LOT of games which I love with the split screen like heliheroes for example but the real fun games that are played with others are sports games which is also available with multiple controler. Even more fun is the fact that a lot of PC games allow you to connect with your friends and allows better customizations and modifications to games which would never be possible with a console.

*** I'll agree with you on that but... while it is true that now there are more bugs on the console games it is mostly because it is only now that the high lvl console games(for ps360) are reaching the complexity that the PC has enjoyed for the past 4-5 years. There are companies developing pc games such as Blizzard for example that have level of polishedness(!) that I've never seen on any console games. Aswell, even companies like ubisoft or EA actually give out fairly polished games even though people are sometimes unfairly criticizing them. When did u last see a nastily bugged EA sport or NFS game? or an unplayably bugged prince of persia game.

You seem to be trying to over compensate for something? I think your just mad that you spent $2000 on a PC before realizing that you could make your own gaming PC for a third of that.

Oh well have fun boasting about your expensive sexy computer, I think I'm going to go play Halo 3. Actually I might head over to my friends and play Mario Galaxy. Wait no, I've reconsidered I think I'm going to head to my other friends house, I'm in the mood for some MGS4 :P
