Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are games missing that spark?

I think a lot of it has to do with devs not taking risks anymore. I mean back in NES generation had all these wonderful and new kinds of games we'd never seen. I mean does anyone realize how groundbreaking Zelda and Metroid were for their time. And this kinda continued upwards until the ends of the 5th generation. 6th generation and onward it might be because everything has been done or devs are getting comfortable but you are not seeing that crazy innovation anymore. I mean sure everynow and then we get a LittleBigPlanet or a Spore or a Wii Sports but not as much as we used to. Hell we are lucky to get innovative next steps up from existing series such as Metroid Prime.

Eventually though this will be forced upon devs considering over saturation of a market with the norm is how the market crashed in 83 in America.

Actually, some of my favorite games are current gen.

Orange Box, Bioshock, SMG, CoD4, Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, MGS4, The World Ends With You, Elite Beat Agents, Twilight Princess, FFIV remake, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, FE: Radiant Dawn, RE4: Wii Edition.

I think you, and a lot of people, underestimate how great a lot of games are this gen.

I don't even have to break down and list most of my AA games I'd say I "loved" this gen, like Mass Effect, Persona 3, NG2, DMC4, GTAIV, Okami Wii, GRAW, Gears of War, LO, ES, Oblivion, Crackdown, and the like.

This generation has given me more great games that I know what to do with. Fan-freakin'-tastic.

My advice to you is, get a DS. Makes the world a brighter place.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Play Maple Story

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

a great game that i think had "spark" was The Bigs, a baseball game that me and my friends played all the time. Seriously we would laugh our asses off, playing this for hours. It deserves a look as its priced at like 20$

feeling like you are still missing something despite having the consoles and the women and the money. Why not try god out for a spin? :P

A lot of 7th generation games have been as fun if not more then a lot of the 5th and 6th generation games to me... but basically all of them have been on the Wii.

Mostly because it's largely new.

The only other one that wasn't was CoD4... because it was the first game i'd played on line a lot since Age of Empires 2.

You need new things for that spark after a while.

There have been only 5 games this generation that have had that magical spark. they are...

LoZ Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Gears of War (since it was the first 360/Ps3 game i played).

Nothing else has had the magic.

You're kidding about Twilight Princess, right? Obviously you don't play too many games. Twilight Princess was pretty much an attempted clone of Ocarina of Time (Nintendo's very last bout of fan service). Not that it was a bad game (it was great), but a game with a "magical spark" should be new and groundbreaking and make you feel like you haven't played it before. Which is why Brawl also fails to meet that criteria.

Anyways, there's nothing you can do if you think videogames are becoming less fun (besides buying more consoles/videogames). You should probably ignore video games for a while until you find them exciting again, or you could try crazy things to liven up your sessions (use your imagination).

Either way, this is the best generation to date so there's no good reason for people to be disappointed.
