Forums - General Discussion - The Dark Knight "influence" from Metal Gear Solid is shameful

Don't listen to them DTG only you and I know true cinema when we see it. We can let these fools keep their dark knights, godfather 1&2, and Stanley Kubrick films. While we keep the real gems to ourselves, such as the MGS series, The Pest, Bio-Dome, and Pairs Hilton movies.

I honestly have to agree.

It seems like the movie tried too hard to present a story that begged a very simple question which was then extrapolated needlessly as the sole substance of the plot. Like Metal Gear Solid 2, it took a fairly simple underlying commentary and made it a confusing mess, spinning its wheels in its redundant progression while trying to explain the same message over and over. Let us also not forget the frequent trailing off of the movie to follow tangents of the story and characters who were only ever meant to be supplementary to the larger story. Like Metal Gear Solid 2, the story didn't really know where it wanted to go or how to get there and rellied on the ambiguity of the story telling and presentation to create the illusion of something that is greater than what it truly was.

The fact that you were able to twist a complaint about TDK into a way to bash the MGS series' storytelling ability and narrative structure is actually pretty impressive.

If I gave you a paperclip, some wire, and a bit of pocket lint, could you turn it into a 2 paragraph expose on why the PS3 is an oversized paperweight too?

It would take some time, but I could make it happen. Though I never once considered the PS3 a viable solution as a Paperwieght so I might have trouble making that argument.

The Matrix borrowed from Plato's Allegory of the Cave more than anything else, and I don't see many similarities to Ghost in the Shell.

DTG: you are insane.

The movie was probably finished before the game even released (that's how Hollywood rolls, and every article about Heath Ledger's death which happened before MGS4 corroborates this), so this thread is pretty pointless.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Dark Knight fucking sucked. It's overrated. It has nothing on the Godfather or Serenity or any other good movie ever.

I agree with you on that aspect DTG.

So ban me.

Also, Heath Ledger sucks.

I can't believe someone actually compared the Godfather (any of the three) to Serenity.

Well, I suppose if you look as deep as DTG did into it, some simularities can be found.  I found a video comparison of the two here.

This thread is still a 10.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

DTG, you've probably had your fill of getting burnt today, but still cant let this one pass.
Batman comics has made it clear many times that Bruce Wayne uses a different, scary kind of voice as Batman, otherwise getting his identity blown is pretty easy.
And please dont forget that Solid Snake was a copy of Snake Plissken from the "Escape from" movies. And lets face it, a "raspy voice" isnt essentially limited to one action hero

I know it for a fact that the guy who made 300 CANNOT do any kind of justice to "The Watchmen". Its a disaster waiting to happen.

Quite a convincing and eloquent argument.
