Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 FF13 to be released in English speaking territories before 360 version?

Godot said:
If SE had any sense of foresight, they could have made 2 Final Fantasy on Wii in that same time period with a larger userbase in Japan and everywhere else rather than downgrading their own extremely expensive PS3 optimized engine.

They spent so much time and money developing that Engine for PS3 and they thought that they could use it for pretty much all their games of the generation...

Correct me if I'm wrong (which I am not), but FF13 is being developed on PCs using the Crystal Tools engine. They have to port it to the PS3 anyway. This has been discussed in many other threads (including a thread you posted in).

Man, I hope it does'nt cmope out on the 360 due to problems because money cant buy everything...

Given the press conference blogging there (http://kotaku.com/5025033/liveblogging-square-enix-press-conference), it becomes very interesting.

Several things are confirmed:
- like I thought, SE doesn't believe that FFXIII is a system seller at all, as the reason they did that is because of install base
- FFXIII is partially saved, as it will have enough install base in the west. But it'll definitely see a big decline in Japan, as I doubt there'll be enough PS3 for it to reach the previous ones' sales
- They say the DVD format will obviously make the content different (understand poorer) from the BD, even if they don't want to make differences

Also, they say the localisation will start after the japanese release. Unless they delay the western PS3 release, there's no way the 360 port will be ready in time. Alienating their western Playstation audience by making them wait is a very bad thing to do, as that's alienating part of their audience of which they have not a lot already.
Logic would make them release the localised PS3 version before if the XB360 one isn't ready.

"FF13 wont matter in late 2010"

I'm willing to bet that the people saying this were the same people who a month ago were saying FF13 would save the PS3.

It's actually a completely different story now, because if the 360 version never existed, FF13 might actually have come out when it still would have made a difference. By the time it comes out now the PS3 should be well past the 360 in life time sales.

As in go buy us some coffee.

It's funny how the translations of this press conference vary with regards to the timing of the releases.

Kotaku's blog doesn't seem to mention the timing of the xbox vs. ps3 release at all. The only conversation regarding release timing involved releasing the NA and PAL versions as close as possible.

IGN claims that the US and Europe releases will be at the same time but not Japan.

IGN also discusses the port status which does not appear at all on Kotaku
"1:24 - Turns out the answer is "It's hard to explain, but we're doing it." To clarify (thanks cute clarification lady!) they're building it on a PC, for the PS3 then will be working on porting to 360."

Can someone point me to information regarding this issue published by Square? Also, I would be interested on the "announced" pc version. As far as I can tell NVidia is the only one with information on the PC version.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

It seems it won't go to PC after all.

Update: We contacted Square Enix, and according to the company, "The game is being built using PC-based development tools, but that doesn’t mean it’s being created for the PC platform. Our current plans are to release FFXIII for the PS3 and Xbox 360 only. Sorry for the confusion!" So to recap, it's being created with PC-based dev tools, but with plans only for PS3/Xbox 360 console release.

PS3 FF XIII released before X360 version. This is great news for Sony and PS3. At the E3 show I did not hear that SE stated PS3 and X360 versions of FF XIII would be launched simultaneously in NA and European regions

FF13 will sell more on the PS3 anyway. The PS3 userbase will be above the 360 userbase for a start

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

@Rock_on_2008: I don't know if they are releasing at the same time or the PS3 will release first. Hopefully SE clarifies this in early August. According to gameplayer the game will not be ported to the 360 until the ps3 localization is complete. That would mean that SE would have to sit on the PS3 version for a year plus. What is the likelyhood of that happening?
