Forums - Website Topics - The "How do I...?" FAQ thread.

My problem is with #11 as I do not have the ability (as of now) to start new threads/create new topics in *any* forum. I can reply though. I have started threads before, but I noticed after the Vgchartz site was updated into different areas that I  no longer can start new topics. I've looked high and low for FAQs regarding this, and this thread is the closest I have come for an answer, but it is a little old and the site has changed quite a bit from the examples given in this thread on how to create/start new threads.

Anyone have an answer?

This FAQ is outdated, like you noted (I plan to update it over Christmas, since it takes longer than you'd think...).

The last update made it so that new people could not create new threads until they've made 100 posts AND been on the site for at least a month.  I believe that is your problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I have to admit that the 100 posts caveat seems a little silly as some kind of requirement. Posts can be moderated, edited, or even deleted by staff here as well as corrective action taken for unwarranted posts. I am also unsure why that is necessary, as if I am being inducted into a club or being proven worthy of  VG's interest. I also think that if this is a rule, VG should clearly post that caveat/requirement when it is apparent that I don't have that ability until the requirement is met. I am not sure what you mean by being on the site at least once a month, I have been a member for a few years now and I visit fairly regularly.

I only make replies in the means (by which your statements confirms) by which I am only able to do, that is to posts created by others. If I feel interested or if I feel I have something more to add I do, it's just that I only do if I can offer something more and not be redundant after reading something someone else may have added that crossed my mind as well.. I am not going to just post to meet the criteria, for me I would be simply wasting time. Oh well, it is VGs rules and I somehow feel I won't make that limit since I don't post needlessly and I really read more than I write. Too bad, because like everyone else, at times, I have questions and I can offer information from time to time.

Again, thanks for the reply.

How do I ... create a topic? There isn't any button or link for me lol

Anyways, since I can't post any topic and this area lacks a bug reporting topic I will put it here.

(Well, I guess there is a button somewhere and a bug reporting topic but I'm not in the mood for looking all around for 20 minutes)

vgchartz.com doesn't work

Warning: require_once(/data/r1/ioi/non_web/gc_config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in/data/r1/ioi/gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/assets/includes/load_includes.php on line 2

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/data/r1/ioi/non_web/gc_config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/CustApache22T/lib/php') in/data/r1/ioi/gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/assets/includes/load_includes.php on line 2

www.vgchartz.com however works. It has been for some days now and it's ... well, dumb.

Also, this site became horribly slow because it's loading tons of stuff incl. ads (which are way too many; this site looks like it's only about money, seriously). This needs a better server or caching.

I don't care if nobody cares ;P

Regarding how to create a thread, you first need to have 100 posts.  I assume this was done to prevent bots from spamming threads, as has happened in the past, but I don't know for certain.

Regarding the loading speeds, it's definitely decreased noticeably since 2.0.  Logging on from my work PC in particular is extremely hit or miss.  Not much I can do about it though!

If you've been here for more than a month, go to the main page for whatever sub-forum you wish to post in (Gaming, Sales, Website, etc.).   Look at the right-hand side of that page (it's horizontal with the "Forums - _____ Discussion" title).  You'll see a button marked "New Thread."  Hit that.

How do I do an advanced reply instead of just a quick reply?

To be honest, I don't even know what an advanced reply is.  Seeing as how the Quick Reply now has the toolbar, does it really matter?
