Forums - Sony Discussion - Kojima: "PS3 is a monster machine"

Soriku said:
Uh..."monster machine" isn't exactly a compliment. He meant it was a "monstee machine" because it's highly capable, BUT it takes a long time to develop for (not to mention a lot of money).

He should make new games. Besides, he said if there was a MGS5 he wouldn't be involved.

Kojima said he would take the role of a producer if there was another MGS project. he never said he wouldn't be involved with Metal Gear after MGS4.

Again! All these developers keep talking to the fecking BBC!

On topic though- of course its a monster machine. Now Kojima, tell that to all these whiners from other companies saying 'its too hard to develop for, we cant handle it, its tooooo complicated, wah wah wah!!!'

The statement comes across pretty badly regardless of what might have been intended. Only a fanboy could fail to see that.

i thought the statement was a very positive one.

like when you point to the new Mitsubishi Evolution X and say: that car is a monster, it eats up everything the road can throw at it.

see, positive

except he didnt say something positive after referring to it as a monster.  it was negative.

but he did say something positive before it:

"In the last two years, we've known what the PS3 is capable of, the specifications of it and how we can utilise it," he continued. "PS3 is a monster machine. That's why it took so much time to create Metal Gear Solid 4."

ie. it took some time to get used to and make good games, but now the capabilities of the machine are known it's a monster. The reason why it took so long it took to make MGS4, is because it took time to realise the mosnter capabilties of the machine.

it's all in the way you chose to interpret the last paragraph. to me that sounds positive. hard at first, but worth it to make a game of MGS4 standard.

It still sounds to me like a back handed jab at the ps3. You could replace the word monster with nightmare, It took 2 years just to figure out what it could do, which makes it sound like difficult hardware to use.

I think the jist is, sure it is powerful but it just extremely hard to get that power out of it. I suppose thats ok if devs are prepared to put 4 years into making a game and fan can wait 4 years.

Come on - how did MGS4 take advantage of the PS3? There's only one aspect and one aspect only it could've taken advantage of and that's the increased storage. It's a stunning looking game but it's not "that" stunning at the same time.

MGS4 could so easily be done on the 360 and on PC on DVD's.

yeah.....on like 12 DVDs lol

wow 4 years.

I think he implied the term "monster" in the sense that it is a great powerful machine but like any monster you have to harness the power of it to make the most of it.

So we have learnt nothing. Pretty much everyone in the industry has said the same. It has a lot of potential but to make the most of it you have to come into terms with it. Many beautiful women I know are the same. They have great potential but you have to understand them first to get anywhere with them :s If you ever do come into terms, they will work wonders for you :D

poorly texture in MGS4, less technical than some games in 2005

lightning and shadow, even poor than Splinter cell 3....

So i think he say PS3 is a monster machine, 4 years of development, just have this kind of graphic ......
