If you have rushed in this thread ready to post 'they all play games', think about it for a moment - radios, MP3 players and sound systems all play music. Are they competing? Obviously not. I've tried to think of the ways that the two console styles are similar and drawn a blank:
Same control scheme? No, traditional vs motion.
Wii -- traditional and motion
Others - traditional only. No real competiton, wii only good choice.
Same business strategy? No, attracting old gamers vs attracting new gamers.
Wii - Attracting old gamers with tons of classics on vc not to mention old nintendo fans. Attracting new games with blue ocean strategy.
Others - Old gamers only, and the real old gamers are best served with the wii. So, again no competition, wii only good choice.
Similar price point? No, the Wii is noticeably cheaper than a high end PS360.
Exactly as you say. No competiton. Wii wins.
Similar gaming experience? No, very few multiplatform games are on both the Wii and the PS360.
Competing game experiences as they have different exclusives. Not sure your point, as this actually might provide some competition to the wii?
Similar target audience? No, young teens/males vs families, children, older people and others.
Again wii is a superset. as it has teens/males too. Others have no competition.
You get the idea...
This leaves the question of what exactly is the Wii competing against if not the PS360?
Obviosly the PS360 fail to compete with the wii in too many important areas. They are no competition for the wii. That is why the wii has the largest market share and is gaining market share.
So, if you can't compete... claim that you are in different markets?
