Forums - Sales Discussion - Is the Wii really competing with PS360?

I think they are in direct competition when you know there are people who are deciding between a wii or an hd console. There may be few of them, but it still happens and that means they are competing for the sales of those people.

Many people would rather have both a Wii and an HD console if they had the money just as they would like an MP3 player and a sound system. Competing products are not complimentary to each other, that is not the definition of competition.

If you claim that the Wii is not in competition with the PS3 and XBox 360 than you're claiming that the Wii represents a new market segment ... If we then analyze the old market segment you can see that it has had an industry colapse on an unprecidented level.

Was the Ps2 in competition with the XB/GCN? If yes, look at it like this:

2001 sales for all last gen consoles: 20.6M
2006 sales are fairly similar, they are: 8.4M for Ps360

2002 sales: 32.3M
2007 sales: 16M

2003 sales: 30.3M
2008 sales: lined up to be ~ 25M maximum.

So realistically, either lots of people have just stopped buying consoles, or the Wii is in direct competition with Ps360.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

WII HAS 100% MARKETSHARE CONFIRMED!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

1. Do 3rd parties have to choose what system to put it on, and/or do they put the same game on the Wii and HD systems? Yes and Yes.
2. Do gamers have to choose what system to buy, PS3 or 360 or Wii? yes.
3. Do analysts and every single video game comparision type of organization put them all side by side when referring to this console generation? Yes.

Yes they are direct competitors.

As an example answer those questions in regards to the leapfrog video game system. They are answer no, because the leapfrog system is not a direct competitor the the PS360Wii.

Your questions don't really related to competitors, they relate more to the reasons why someone chooses one system over the other.

The Wii has created an environment specifically for the 'casual' gamers of the Playstation generation - they have migrated away from the 'hardcore' tendencies of the PS360. It is also a question of money and affordability.

Do Sony and Microsoft want these gamers to buy their systems?
If the answer is yes, then the systems are in direct competition ...

I would say the wii is competing more indirectly, than directly with the PS360.

This would best be illustrated by a Venn diagram.

All of your questions and answers can be applied to handheld consoles.
