Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Motion Plus - What were they thinking?

Unless the MP is $5.00 or packaged with each MP games it won't make a serious impact. It doesn't really matter anyways. Also it won't be default for current Wiimote, but it will be standard for the Wii2.

Can we please stop using the Wiimote cost price as a negative thing. Theres more technology packed into that thing than normal. While all current gen controllers have pretty much gone wireless only the Wiimote has tilt/force, sound chip and IR camera. Yes theres the sixaxis, but that doesn't seem to be a integral to the controller design. Plus your also comparing it as needed functionality with the nunchuck. It doesn't need it for all games. To mimic last gen games yes, but not all games or some current games.

The Wiimote price is a deal considering it's versatility. I use it regularly on my PC and have goofed around using it as a controller on with my PDA.

I would have bought the Wiimote outside of the Wii since it's the best of

There is still a decent chance that Nintendo will be bundling this technology with future Wiis and or Wiimotes. Wii Sports Resort won't be launching until Spring 2009, so they very well could do that.

That also gives third party developers some time to play catch up to get the technology into their own games. We don't really know how difficult it will be to program for. I've heard that Motion Plus adds another gyroscope to the Wiimote, so that it can sense another axis of motion. If that's true, it should just be more of what developers have already been doing. Hopefully that won't be too difficult to implement.

Rumble wasn't standard with the N64 yet it saw wide implimentation. This isn't bad decision for Nintendo in anyway. In fact, it's a really good one since the new Wii Sports will probably go on to sell 10 million units when they couldn't easily justify such a "cheap" game being sold without pack-in hardware in the West. This is just more money in the bank for Nintendo.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Nintendo obviously created motion plus to respond to the widely believed motion controls sony and microsoft were making. That's why it seemed rush.... because it was rushed.

If Nintendo wants to make it standard they better not sell it for no more than $10 as a standalone. If it is going to be released next April there are going to be about 100 million wiimotes in peoples' homes. What the least Ninty can do is sell it for cheap as a token of courtesy. After all the wiimotes and nunchucks are expensive as they are and the motion plus tech should have been there in the first place (a lot of people thought it was capable of 1-1...now we know its not the devs fault its the lack of tech of the wiimote).

But I doubt Ninty will sell it for cheap. Just more money for their pockets.

Ugh this is making me lose love for Ninty.

I just see many sword games on the horizon lol.

Nintendo just made life even harder for the third parties. Not good. They should:

1. announce an updated Wiimote Plus with integrated M.P. technology, in addition to the add-on M.P. they already presented (which should be available unbundled, too)

2. work closely with third parties to give them a chance to include M.P. tech as soon as possible

3. announce that M.P. will be the new standard for Wii controls. Otherwise I don't see how there will be more than a few games supporting it - which would be a shame, because I think most every game would benefit from tighter 1:1 controls! Think about Zack & Wiki 2, for example.

What do you think?

1. They will

2. They already are

3. Not required. Games that need it, will use it - but look at all the games out to date that don't need it.

It wouldn't be that hard to create games that would support BOTH the Wiimote & Motion+ - maybe enable some new features (etc) once its detected.

It shouldn't be required for 70%-85% of all games coming.

@Stats: You're aware it's going to be sold separately from WS Resort for about $5-$10, right?

I highly doubt it will cost that little and even if it did cost $10

44.99 + 24.99 + 9.99 + Tax = $90

still not exactly cheap

Is that in Canada? in the US its 39.99 + 19.99 + ??.99 + Tax

Your maxing things sound more expensive than they are, Its not cheap but people get this stuff with the $10 they save on each game.

Wii owners are just going to buy Wii Sports Resorts on mass.

Attachment Rates will be 50%+

That's what nintendo is going for, another 20 million seller.
