Thats an old wives tale. The only problem is if you get somewhat drunk before hitting the hard stuff you sometimes lose track of how drunk you are. So long as you have a healthy grip on your limit it doesn't matter what order you drink in. I tend to switch from beer to straight vodka with no ill effects.

well there is a problem with that. With liquors you dont know how much alcohol your consuming. Beer its a very low amount.

There should be a clear label for the proof of almost any bottle of liquor. Keep track of how diluted it becomes if you mix it and you should be able to keep track. It also helps to pace yourself, but you need a good understanding of how your body will metabolise the alchohol to do that properly. It also helps if you stick to drinks you know on nights you want to go completely overboard, and experiment with new drinks on nights you plan on staying way away from your limit.

Stay away from 151. And The Three Wisemen. Matter of fact, try to keep the shots to a minimum. That'll depend on your friends, really, since after the first several shots, your inhibitions will be lowered. There will most definitely be shots.
The goal is to have a great time, but to remember it. Blackouts suck because you don't know who to apologize to in the morning(afternoon, really, if you did it right). lol
One time, I was just partying innocently after having dropped a legendary amount of booze. I remember dancing on the dancefloor with some random chick, then, suddenly, I'm waking up on some front porch in the next state(luckily, I wasn't too far from the border to begin with.) The chick I was dancing with comes out of the front door later on as I was trying to get my bearings. She said I left after the sex saying I had to go to work in the morning. I didn't even make it to the car before passing out on her doorstep. That's a blackout. Be careful. Your boys should have your back, though, so something like that doesn't happen. lol

Which brings me to something I shouldn't have to tell you, and you probably already know: DO. NOT. DRIVE.

Also, don't let someone else who has been drinking drive you. Thats about as bad as driving drunk. I've had a pretty bad experience with that one :\

Also my brothers friend was just mauled in an accident where the driver was drunk. And by mauled I mean he got a detached thumb broken spine broken pelvis + various other injuries and 9+ surgeries out of the deal.

To be honest, just do what you feel, go where the night takes you (barring drink driving and other silliness). First hand experience is better, good or bad. This way you'll also learn your limits more precisely.

I was never drunk...

There is an easy way to count how many "drinks" you're having. One "drink" is an arbitrary amount of alcohol, but it's the same for every type of beverage.

12 ounces of a 5% alcohol beer.
5 ounces of a 12% alcohol wine.

See that pattern? It's magic. You multiply the ounces and the % and get .60. That's a drink.

1.5 ounces of a 40% alcohol liquor.

That goes for any mixed drink. You should put in 1.5 ounces of hard booze, and either shoot it or mix it with whatever you want.

All of these count as 1 drink.

If you have a 40, if it's actually malt liquor (8% alcohol), that's 5 drinks. But if it's 40 ounces of 12% alcohol beer, it's 3 1/3 drinks.

You can dance between liquor and beer as long as you don't start drinking the liquor as fast as you drink the beer. Keep these numbers in mind, and you will become a successful drunk like the best of us.

Good luck and godspeed.

It always saddens me to see such a collection of people who don't know how to drink properly. You should never end up puking after a night of drinking. Your first few times your friends should be around to keep you in check, and after that you should know when to stop.

Well I will pass on a bit of useful advice for all of you. There is a sure fire way to insure that you will never get a hang-over. At the end of the night drink a healthy amount of water. Drink at least a few glasses over the course of an hour or so. Alternatively you could probably use Gatorade or a similar sports drink designed to hydrate you. Hang-overs only happen because you body becomes dehydrated after a night of drinking. Prepare your body for that and you will never fear the morning after again.

It saddens me that you don't read the title correctly.. lol

It's about gettng drunk the first time.. not about drinking properly.. there is a difference between drinking and getting drunk.. xD
