Fun fact: Old Snake is loosely based upon actor Lee Van Cleef.

Old actor, so for those who aren't familiar with the name, he had two co-starring roles in Sergio Aragones' spaghetti Westerns with Clint Eastwood. And he played a ninja master in a TV show creatively titled "The Master."

And of course, Lee Van Cleef was also in Escape from New York as Hauk, the police commissioner who "recruits" Snake.

Kojima is a huge film fan... I thought everone knew that? Big Boss in the first two Metal Gears resembles Sean Connery, too. And you know Harry Gregson-Williams, the composer of the series? Kojima found him by watching movies. I'm sure there's other things too but those are the ones I could get on my mind right now.

If you want to find quite a lot of Snake Plissken (but not the eyepatch), you must look at Duke Nukem. In DN3D there's even an audio track called "Snake", IIRC.
