Forums - Gaming Discussion - Handheld gaming thread: Thoughts on iPhone/iPod Touch Nintendo DS Sony PSP

Okay I have read articles suggesting Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch apps platform may kill the Nintendo DS. I have also read contradictory statements suggesting however, successful iPhone and iPod Touch are that would not happen, and that comparing iPhone or iPod Touch to Nintendo DS is an unreasonable comparison. iPhone and iPod Touch while their apps platform has room for games and some games have emerged for these devices through the App Store which Apple offers via the iTunes Store for Mac and Windows users while also offering a mobile version of the App Store on iPhone and iPod Touch devices directly -- these devices do more than just gaming and were not designed by Apple directly to run games. Dedicated game consoles and handheld devices like Nintendo DS and Sony PSP when adding the hardware are made mainly as game machines and they too can add other functions but are first and foremost game systems. The iPhone and iPod Touch are multimedia related devices though first -- music and video handheld players -- with the iPhone also doubling as a cellular phone. I'd just like to know what others think -- do you think iPhone/iPod Touch could and would kill Nintendo DS or is it in another market segment entirely and competition does not make sense between the two and would not really happen on such a large scale.
