Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Which JRPG would you recommend?

Why not wait for the games to actually come out?  It doesn't really make sense to recommend a game none of us have played.

I honestly believe all 3 games are going to fail to live up to expectations and will be lackluster titles.

Why would they be lackluster titles? Does a game have to get near-perfect scores in order for games to meet expectations? No necessarily.

@PhatLaosBoi

Are you one of those people that thought SO3 was a let down?  That might have something to do with you think SO4 will be mediocre.  I liked SO3 and all but I can understand why it is considered by some to be a let down.

I would go for Infinite Undiscovery, as Star Ocean 4 is still a while ago, though they are very similar in terms of their battle system, except IU is closer to an MMO (more like XII) and they are both made by Tri-ace. I don't really know about the story, though IU does have the issue of a ridiculous title... though I am sure you can get over that.
The only issue with the SO battle system is that it can turn into button mashing, though that is only my experience from a small part of 3 (I still haven't got around to finishing it since getting it in April)

Is one of these series known for hack n slay? I just hate Hack n Slay. Like I said, Shenmue I/II, Zelda Ocarina of Time were great (No Zelda after this one came even close to it). I would love to play one of these on the 360.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Star Ocean 4 easily above the other 2.

I need to learn a little more about how exactly LR's battle system works, but I would put that at #2.

Edit - Someone said the SaGa team is working on it?

Sweet!!! :) Hopefully the pre "Unlimited SaGa" team.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Yes, the TLR team is made of people from the FF and SaGa teams

In that case, I am getting this game day 1, I don't care what the reviews say.

This game isn't going to be much like SaGa so I think it will get good reviews if the battle system is polished

Level-5 RPGs for me... Especially Dragon Quest, Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud and Jeanne D' Arc...

Perhaps I could add a little freshness to the debate. Have you considered the financial benefits of purchasing titles in this genre that have already been released. They are sure to be far more cost effective. The 360 already has a few notable titles in this genre. When I say notable I mean they have average scores 8/10. Those titles are Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and Lost Odyssey.

Out of the three titles you presented only one title arrives within the next month. The other will not arrive till the middle of November, and the third will not arrive till some time next spring. Further more the earliest you can pick up any of these titles is in two weeks with Infinite Undiscovery.

Anyway being behind the market as happen to be your case. You can enjoy your position to its fullest. You can pick up older titles and save yourself a wad of cash, and as you play those newer titles can also see a price decrease. Your not exactly in the same boat as everyone else who has played those three games I listed out. Just some food for thought I am not sure why you are thinking three or seven months in advance, and if you have the craving right now why wait two weeks. Why pay first day prices when you can avoid paying for them.
