Forums - Gaming Discussion - Whats so "fun" about the wii?

It's the same reason most people would say Disneyland is more fun than say paintball. One can hate Disneyland and get endless enjoyment playing paintball, but the majority of people will say Disneyland is more fun.

What's so fun about the [insert your favorite console here]?

Seriously, if you want to be a schmuck please continue asking stupid questions. You even address the answer in your post. Just because you grow tired of something or don't find it enjoyable doesn't make it so for the vast majority of others.  FFS, do you go around asking everyone you meet who says they're having fun to justify why it's fun for them and not for you?

OK...you like RPGs right? Why not wait for RPGs on the Wii like Tales of Symphonia, Arc Rise Fantasia, Fragile, Little King Story (sim/RPG), etc. instead of just playing Wii Sports and going "This game isn't for me!"

Thing is, I have a 60gb ps3 and a backlog of old RPGs to play! I'd actually rather play old RPGs than the ones on wii because I'm used to the PS controller (and resistant to change lol) and there isn't much of a graphical improvement to spike my interest. The 360 maybe, but it doesn't have nearly as much to compete with the games I've had to skip the last 2 gens.

So yeah. Reading the OP, seems like another bait post.

It's simple, really. A lot of the Wii users are "gamers" which stopped playing and buying Video Games past the SNES/Sega era due to the more recent decade of fluffing the gaming market. There are also a lot of current gen gamers, newer ones, that enjoy it as well.

To put it simply, "fun" to far too many people willing to complain about Wii's image is simple a matter of "fun" on Wii not being "cool" enough.

Pick up RE4: Wii edition if you haven't played it before. It's actually very Wii-ized with the controlling.

If you like Baseball, pick up MLB Power Pros (granted, it's also on PS2, but who doesn't make cross-platform games these days? It looks better, anyway). Power Pros is quite an insane game. It's an incredible RPG in terms of stats and upgrading.

Mario Kart is really a game that will stick around for years. I'm sorry, but it was quite fun when my room mates and I (all about 23-24 years old) played a team match through 48 (?) tracks in one sitting.... at the same time seeing how many beers we could chug. That was fun.

Smash Bros. is the same. It will last a long time. You pick it up here and there, and it will pay more for itself in the long run.

Check out "The Conduit" in development.

Square has already landed XBox with their usually PS exclusive title, FF. You can bet Wii will land more games from the giant (more original) as time progresses.

I don't remember if Force Unleashed will have any Wii movement on it... but there is a Star Wars lightsaber dueling game in production.

I don't know, I could go on. Infact, most of us read on the enhanced Wiimote feature coming soon... that will undoubtedly land a bomb shell for FPS games. No cutesie Mii's landing there.

Don't you worry though. Microsoft has already announced and shown how they will get their own avatars on. Gonna call their cutesie little Sim-looking people a reason to degrade the whole system? I think not.

At least 100 millions peoples wiil find the Wii«fun» before the end of this gen.

So how would you know that everyone who bought a Wii found it fun? I know 5 people around my block who own a Wii and haven't touched it since the day they bought it. They got bored with it very fast. I'm not even joking.

I asked the question because the wii has become a synonym for "fun" in gaming lexicon so someone had to clarify things. The point of the post is that everyone's console is "fun" to them so the wii should learn to share the term but you couldn't read between the lines...thats your own shortcoming.

Oh, and on the topic of the term "fun".

To compare the original topic, this is like trying to redefine the word "fun" when you are surrounded by soccer players from around the world and they really don't understand your individualistic point of view that "fun" is no longer a valid terminology to use, since you are too stubborn to really see any worth in others' "fun" (which happen to amass far more numbers than your own)

Don't let the Nintendo fanboys define what is fun.

You can have fun playing Wii Sports, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Halo, Red Steel, Wii Play, or any game.

The whole concept behind a videogame is an interactive, video-based game that produces fun.

Fun might be re-inacting yourself as a soldier in a huge, epic battle, or fighting monsters in a great, well-storied fantasy land. It might be in playing virtual tennis, or a golfing game.

Fun doesn't mean gameplay over technology. The best RPG of all time, as cited by most VGC-ers, and elsewher, Chono Trigger (and/or Final Fantasy VII, depending on who you ask) both used groundbreaking technology, and gameplay elements when they came out. So did Mario, Mario 64, and Wii Sports.

For myself, I will take a well-writen good RPG over most other genres, as I like to feel emotion, and get involved in the characters that I play as, rather than a quick, stupid game of . I've always been a fan of long, epic games, because that is what is fun for me. Monopoly might be fun to you, but not to me. Risk or Axis & Allies is more of my type of board game. To each his own. When you have someone say "only this is fun" or "because if has tons of graphics, it's not fun" - Wasn't Star Wars a fun movie to watch in the early 1970's? All of those superb top-notch graphics? It was amazing to see, even in the 90s as a kid for me. Likewise, seeing the Matrix, and the new filming techniqes the director(s) and staff used was groundbreaking, and "fun" for me because I like action and kung-fu movies.

So anyone that says that technology over gameplay isn't fun needs to buy an Atari 2600 then, seriously.

The problem there is that MOST of the better RPGs out there aren't the cutting edge ones. Games like your Disgea's and Suikodens didn't use complicated things. FF6... etc.

To me the Wii is fun for a couple reasons.

1) It offers a real evolution compared to the other two cosnoles. Since the PS1 games have basically been the same, there hasn't been much change. The Wii offers a lot of crazy possibilties for new genres of games.

2) The PS3 and 360 have artifical standards for graphics... and it seems like a large number of games are putting more and more of their budgets on the graphical designers, which to me... is the least important aspect of gaming.

I really wouldn't care if a game had PS1 graphics or PS3 graphics so long as it's fun. If the money could of gone to a longer and more fun game, it seems like a waste. Rather then making sure a characters hair is modeled right or texture mapping. I'd perfer that the RPG i'm playing has more length and more items.

Not that there is anything wrong with the PS3 or 360. I still plan to get both... but to me... the games that interest me on it... are basically the very few ones that are doing stuff new... or doing stuff exceptionally well. While nearly every game on the Wii is a new expierence. (that isn't a halfass port.)

Something like... borderlands and it's procedural weapons generation interests me dozens of times more then like Killzone 2.

I've played hundreds of PS1 and PS2 games.  I'm lookin for that next step.

Hmmm this is something very hard to describe... It's just the same with anything really... Why do you think X thing is more fun?

Though, I enjoy games more than consoles... Meaning like a console itself isn't fun. Games that are on it are. So saying Wii is fun on itself isn't a correct statement to me. Same applies to other consoles/handhelds.

But you could say that the Wii has a little something more than others.... Wii-mote is very great and easy to use (especially in games like Metroid). Makes the game more enjoyable, imo.

What's ironic here is that very few people ON THIS FORUM debate which console is more fun (actually, it doesn't happen as frequent as most, really).  It's a bait post.  People are used to it here.

The reply given to you by allthehoneys is very legitament.  Re-read the line "FFS, do you go around asking everyone you meet who says they're having fun to justify why it's fun for them and not for you?"

Prinstine20, I'm not about to claim Xbox and PS are no fun.  I have both older ones (don't see the need to get the new ones).  I enjoy Wii for many reasons.  Asking for reasons as to why 29 million owners need to justify their high attachment rate (more games are sold for Wii than other consoles per unit).  It's like complaining that the DS is too gimicky, or the games are too cutesie compared to the PSP.  It's a pointless argument.

Asking everyone to redefine or justify their term of fun, or use it less attached to "Wii" (since going against the grain and claiming it's not) is grounds to get slammed, honestly.  It's much easier to apprecaite a Wii if you owned a NES or SNES, or a gameboy, or even SegaG and Atari.

It's synonymous with "fun" because I've played it with an 86 year old grandma of mine, and a 3 year old cousin at the same time.  Try that on a PS3.
