@DmeisterJ -- I'm just curious, here. No flame or troll intended but what has kept you from buying a PS3? I know you are a supporter of the console and brand but correct me if I'm wrong, but you haven't gotten one yet, have you?

I haven't felt compelled to own a PS3 yet.

PS3 defender?  Yes.  But I can't justify a 4-500 purchase of it yet.

Weird huh?

Won't this NPD show the Wii passing the 360 in the US? If so I expect some big press headlines from this.

really? according to NPD, Wii still hasnt passed 360? if thats true , then ur right. we should expect huge press headlines.

Wii had already passed 360 in real time by the time May NPD was released.  The June numbers released today will officially confirm it.

Can't wait to see the Microsoft spin on that headline!

- "XBox360 is the only platform where 3rd parties get a piece of the action, unlike Nintendo's platform, where only 1st party offerings enjoy success."

- "3rd party revenues on the XBox360 is more than that of the Wii and PS3 combined."

- "Attach rates for XBox360 software is X, outpacing the Wii and PS3 attach rates of Y and Z."

- "XBox Live is the second coming of Jeebus"

He's a college student in Delaware.  What do you expect?  He probably doesn't have the money. :P

I say this will be a record NPD thanks to 5 weeks and Nintendo systems insanely demand.

This does not matter. As Microsoft has stated previously: "History has shown us that the first company to reach ten million in console sales wins the generation battle."

id like to know wat drugs microsoft was takin cause i want some of those!!!

i mean, r u serious? wat makes them think that getting to 10 million before the Wii means that they win?  thats crazy!!!

Couple things:

1) Yes - this is the month Wii passes 360 in the USA by NPD (10.9m to 10.5m probably)

2) From what I've seen in the archived industry trade sites, the top non-holiday/non-launch month for a console in the USA was PS2 in 2002 after it was $200 vs. $300. But PS2 never topped 700k except in holidays supposedly. Wii has topped 700k twice now, without a price cut, and likely did it again this month.

3) If Nintendo really intends to launch Wii in China, they have to catch and slightly surpass monthly demand in the USA with greater supply. To do that, I think they may need a few 1m/month non-holiday months over the next 12.

As for the week ending June 28th, our data showed one last big Wii shipment arriving in time for the end of Nintendo's 1st quarter (which runs April 1 to June 30)

To add further.  PS2's best non-holiday month ever was June 2002 selling 690k.  After that point, it sold 500k+ in non-holiday months just 4 more times.

Wii has already had 5 non-holidays months of 500k+ sales not including tonights numbers.

EDIT: Just to show how far Nintendo has come, the best non-holiday month for GC ever was Oct 2003 with 250k sold.  The Wii has never had a month that low...ever.

Thats just straight up impressive. I wonder how close the Wii is to PS2 sales at this point LTD.

Ah this will be again a lot of fun.;

As long as PS3 continues to outsell 360 in the US, I'm happy. Nice numbers for the Wii and DS.
