Forums - Gaming Discussion - Was the upgrade from Game Cube to Nintendo Wii worth it?

Sony and Microsoft on the other hand have improved significantly by upgrading to HD. Can someone tell me what the difference in graphics between the Wii and Game Cube games? I can not see and I have been looking hard to see differences. Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart Double Dash. Marginal improvement. Zelda: Twilight Princess both versions look identical. Resident Evil 4: small improvement. SSBB on Wii compared to SSBM on GC - slight graphics improvement.

My Verdict: slight improvement in graphics from Game Cube to Nintendo Wii. Both GC and Wii are 128 bit consoles.

Was the upgrade from Game Cube to Nintendo Wii worth it?

Graphics aren't everything, look at Tetris, Wii Sports, Portal

Gameplay always comes out on top, and before some smart arse says that shit floats to the top let me remind them that the xbox 360 is not leading this generation

For me and most GC owners: Yes. Games wouldn't have been able to be done like that. WiiWare has some awesome exclusives, VC is great. Z&W, Elebits, Boomblox would not have been possible. Other people loved WiiSports so much they bought Game Party and that other shit.

For Nintendo: Look at the front page.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Well for one thing, it isnt all about graphics- the Wii does have the Wiimote. But it's easy to see the graphical differences when you compare Super Mario Sunshine to Super Mario Galaxy, or Timesplitters GC to The Conduit. It's no contest; the graphical differences are huge. It's just that most 3rd party releases dont take advantage of it, and neither do Nintendo with their gameplay-oriented Wii series.

Can someone put comparison photos of those up? I suck at that kind of thing.

All the best games on the Wii are only iterations of my favourite gamecube games , Mario Sunshine , Double Dash , Bros Melee . Love my gamecube though.

Edit : I guess that's partly true for the PS3 as well.

The Op thread only applies to those who had a Game Cube and upgraded to a Nintendo Wii.

For those who owned a PS2 or are new to gaming or whatever. I have another question for you. Is the Wii still fun and met your expectations or has the Wii became boring?

well, it really depends on what side of the fence you are standing on. There really isnt that big a difference graphically between the wii and gamecube, especially when compared to the difference between the X box and 360, but in MY opinion sony and microsoft havent really improved anything.

I was that gamer the reggie was talking about that was growing bored with the state of gaming and needed something new. Sony and MS both rolled out "Malibu stacy in a new hat" with these consoles and quite frankly that bored me to tears. Nintendo did something new, and caught my interest with it. So in that sense, nintendo has been the only company to improve at all this generation as i havent seen the other doing much of anything game related that they werent doing before.

And im willing to bet there are a bunch of people here that dissagree with me, but hey... thats what i meant by what side of the fence you stand on.

F@ck Ubisoft and their commitment to Wii shovelware.

LMAO, half the games you used for comparison are straight GC ports. Way to pick 'em.

The difference in controls on the wii are greater then the difference between graphics of PS2/PS3 and XBOX/360. So, yes the upgrade was worth it. Not even mentioning other features such as SD slot and built in memory and wifi support.

imo yes, the wii has a lot more features that people don't really mention like online play, wii shop (virtual console and wiiware) and various other channels (including internet bowser) Also it has internal memory and sd support and usb connections for additional peripherals as well as full bc with cube games.

Most importantly of all is the obvious new gameplay experience it provides with the ir pointer and the motion sensing technology.

nintendo and sega fan since i was old enough to hold a game controller.

note: my games collection on my profile is only 20ish% complete, i've got a boatload of 360,saturn and dreamcast games to add and a few ps3 games, thanks :)
