Forums - Gaming Discussion - Engadget: Nintendo MotionPlus Hands-on (hint, they are not impressed)

I actually didn't realize Wii had this limitation until they made this add on so I'm probably never going to get a wii. See that's why I love Nintendo they are a very honest company.

It's a "limitation" in the same way that the PS1 was a "limited" PS2, the PS2 was a "limited" PS3, and the PS3 will be viewed as a "limited" PS4 in about five years. All products evolve over time,  and any product that gets a revision or replacement later on (As in, all video game systems ever) implicitly admit that the previous products were limited. As such, it's a little difficult to criticize a groundbreaking product for not being groundbreakinger.

Not quite the same.

I put this upgrade slightly above the switch from SixAxis to DS3.

It has the potential for a lot more, but without actually seeing something other than a Wii Fencing mini-game, I'm not nearly about to believe this is as groundbreaking as an entirely new console would be.

It's a silly comparison.

What I would hope is that Motion Plus provides a closer experience to what I thought the Wii Remote was supposed to provide back when the Wii first caught my interest.

Everyone is allowed to upgrade and make enhancements to their product lines without starting over naturally and I see this as a potential step in the right direction, assuming the games take advantage of the enhancements.

If not, hey; it's either an overpriced $20 dongle, or a bargain $30 purchase with Wii Sports 2/Resort.

"they are not impressed"

so what?? i was not impressed by GTA IV!
but i was impressed by the Wii Sports Resort show at the E3....

so, i have to try it out myself in order to say if it's good or not....

I say they pack it in (or even better, BUILD IT IN) with all new WiiMotes and make it 10 bucks for existing wii-motes.

Also, it'll comes packaged with Wii Sports Resort.

And honestly, I don't think $30 is all that bad for this accesory.

And how many copies of that will you buy? Cause that's the real issue. I bought the Zapper with Zelda for €20 because I liked the game. I might buy this for the fencing alone for €30, but the thing is that I don't really want to do that alone.

Even if the thing costs €20 by itself (and considering the current price of the nunchuck and the classic, that'd be "cheap"), and bundled with the game costs €30, it's still more than €80 to update 4 controlers. And if the most fun is on simultaneous multiplayer (which judging by the show, for some games it is), the game is €50+ not €30. This also pushes the price for a "full" controler to €80, and that doesn't even alow you to play some of the classic games (that'd take an extra €20).

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

I don't know where all this about it being $30 came from.... does anyone have a link?

I think alone it will be cheaper than the nunchuck, like $10-15

The MEMS gyroscopes used in the device used to cost around $30 in large quantities by the end of 2007. Invensense, the company behind this announcement seems to be working on hitting a target price of $10, which they believed a few years back would be the sweet spot for the market to explode.

I honestly don't think this will be cheaper than a Nunchuck... that's unless they're ripping us off on the Nunchuck. Gyros are far more expensive than accelerometers.

Depending on price, the device is either a success or a huge blunder as far as I'm concerned.

^Oh, I thought it used the same stuff as in the nunchuck.

Surely an accelerometer wouldn't be able to measure tilt though? unless the nunchuck has more than 1.
