Blue; Do you have a vested intereset in blurays success? If not, then why do you care so much about seeing HD-DVD die?

(Don't give me "I want to see the war end" line either. If that was the case, you wouldn't care which would win)

Ms backed hddvd and i hate them with a passion also i did spend $900 on a PS3,  vested enought ?

HD-DVD will totally kick Blu-Ray's ass!

Just kidding. Blu-ray no doubt will beat HD-DVD, but we won't be seeing DVD or VHS-esque sales yet.

Yeah we recently bought an HD-DVD player for $300... that should tide us over until the stupid format war is over... (Who would wanna spend $500+ on an effing blu-ray anyway?)

Microsoft Says No PS3 Blu-ray In Xbox 360

http://ps3center.net/story-619.html

He continued by stating that the Blockbuster move to make Blu-ray exclusive may be a a factor but the most important thing to the next-gen media format war is the price and with HD-DVD being cheaper, it still stands a chance.
Bringue stated that price was what would win the war as HD-DVD has lower production costs giving it a big advantage over Blu-ray. He stated it is not far away when players could be priced around £100.

My opinion exactly. Although admittedly BR seems to be in a better position right now, it will take at least until christmas to be able to make any thoughtful predictions on the outcome of the format war.

As far as I'm concerned, HD-DVD is dead. It seems to be an inevitability at this point.

It will take a while for prices to come down to where a significant audience will be buying standalone players. But by that time, Blu-Ray will be pretty established. PS3 will be propelling sales of Blu-Ray movies to that gaming audience, and nothing will be propelling HD-DVD sales. As we're seeing with Blockbuster, this will result in Blu-Ray getting the bulk of shelf space, and making it virtually impossible for HD-DVD to come back.

It'll take awhile for the sales to get big though, and maybe that's what Blu-Ray fans should concern themselves with. Not when HD-DVD dies, which is inevitable and fastly approaching, but to what degree Blu-Ray can displace DVD sales.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Can anyone tell me anything that can keep HD-DVD afloat? And don't tell me player prices, because that advantage will be almost nonexistent by Christmas (and almost already is). I guess if you want to buy the used ones that people are dumping on Ebay price could be an issue.

Blu-Ray will win, end of story.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I was telling my buddy the other day that there were alot of movies that are on Blu-ray that I already have in my dvd collection that I might like to upgrade. I told him that the only reason I didn't buy all of them (one at a time of course) was because I wasn't sure if Blu-ray would be the winner. Lately he has been telling me that I should buy them anyway because Blu-ray will be the winner. The only other problem I have with the whole HD movie thing is that a sizable amount of my DVD collection are Universal movies :(.

then wait a while, DVD sales are starting to flat line, HD sales are slowly picking up. Universal will start seeing a slow decline of revenue from HD-DVD, and DVD sales. They will by then end of the year to early spring have to move to at least neutral status.

I don't really care about any of the 3 (suppose I care most about DVD), but I would love to see where you got that info.  And if that is the case for some odd reason, I'm sure the other two formats have gone down by about the same amounts.

More good news for the HD format(s): columbia house is about to start carrying both BD and HDDVD.
