Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 1:1 wiimote addon -FROM NINTENDO- coming e3 preview

I think it is an excellent strategy on behalf of Nintendo. Hopefully they will add some extended features to the wiimote besides just increasing the accuracy and performance of the wiimote. Now lets see how much thunder this will steal from microsoft if they announce a motion control 360 controller.

I am SO out of this thread.

Victory for the thread!

Back on topic, I'm guessing this will come bundled with Wii Music, but I hope it comes with Punch Out!, because I actually intend to buy the latter. I'm still not sure how many games will use this, though, since it seems to be the Wii's version of the N64's Booster Pak.

I've bought every peripheral for the Wii so far, because I actually liked the games they came bundled with. But this is starting to look really, really silly.

Yeah, I only have two remotes, but I don't need any more, as quite a few of my friends have Wii's and bring theirs when they come over. So I'm not going to replace mine, or buy more, or keep buying accessories for them unless them come with a game I really want (and is not overly expensive for what it is, by itself, without the extra pricy accessories). I really like the wheel, my girlfriend really likes it too, and we do play together, but we're not forking another $10 or whatever for an extra one.

Besides, making these things "standard" post factum (as Sony did with rumble) plain sucks. I own consoles because I (hopefully) only need to buy them once, and not constantly upgrade them for new games. Yes, we already expect we'll have to buy a couple extra remotes, and some peripherals for a handful of games where they make sense.

But between plain plastic shells, half the controller being sold separately, a different controler being needed for classic games, a retro-compatible controler being required because of fears of piracy, and only one true inovative add-on (putting aside for a second the third-party controllers), we already have 8 pieces of extra "hardware" at home. And now comes the "bugfix" add-on? My Wii already takes far more space than a PS3 ever would (even without the balance board)...

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

So now developer has to make game that will support both old 1.0 wiimote and the new 2.0 Wiimote?? I don't see how this could be a good thing.

I am also confuse at all this Nintendo win E3 with this dongle add on. I will now have to detach this thing everytimes I want to charge my Wiimote not to mention buying 4 set of this thing ... I am withyou Shameless I am not sure what all the hoopla about this announcement. (and your avartar is disturbing and your sig is very distracting)!

Give me this peripheral, and a HDD (to update past games, and store VC/Wiiware titles), and I will personally blow Reggie and Shigeru.

I'm not entirely sold on this device. Is it going to enchance the experience of playing titles not originally designed for it? Are games designed for it going to work without it?

I suppose things will make more sense after we see some games that support it.

I was hoping they would've done this via a software update, not with a new peripheral. The game that uses this must really be great for me to pay for this, and if it is more than 10$ I won't even then.

This could be good, but the peripheral count is just getting ridiculous...and yes I hate all peripheral including any motion control MS announces and including any motion controller that Sony announces. Just more useless clutter, especially when you need it for every single controller.

For the Wii that is:

1:1 Sensor
Nunchuk
Wii Wheel
Wii Fit Board
Classic Controller
Crossbow Training Pack-In

Where does it end, seriously? If Sony had done something like this I would shit a brick.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. In responce to the 2 replies to my comments on codeing:

Developers write the code to read in positional values from the remote and then they check/compare this against (hard coded/ pre defines) values in the game and the game reacts accordingly.

Assuming a past game attempted to do 1 : 1 and was released only to show problems with lag and accuracy, then yes it is possible that this could make that game more accurate. One possible example of this could be Wii Sports, but i got a feeling Nintendo coded a tricky method (something like predefined locations in space for the controller to pass through)  to make it appear 1 : 1 as they were fully aware of the controllers capabilities.

That said, I got a feeling this device creates 3 points of location for the wiimote now, a triangle it would seem, which allows a very simple algorithm (fast processing one) to locate where the device is. The devkit would then have a whole new function, or the old one has just been overidden with new parrameters to check values against.

This would mean then that old games would not take advantage of the new accuracy. Hey but what do I know, I guess we will see tomorrow :)

It's really difficult to say what it does ...

I would assume that it creates 4 points positioned in a triangular pyramid which allows them to map the Wiimote's orientation (and not just its velocity) which should (greatly) improve motion controlls. As a guess, I would expect that if you know the orientation of the Wiimote you should be able to eliminate noisy motion far faster and (therefore) be able to determine that someone is attempting a motion far earlier giving 1 to 1 interaction.

bugfix addon?  I'm not sure you understand what this is.

And if you haven't figured it out yet, much of the Wii's success is built on constantly changing the experience. They want to offer many different experiences on one console.  That's why you get things like the balance board and this.  The idea is that they can keep adding new types of games and new experiences by packing in small peripherals.  This way the gameplay doesn't get stale.

Again, think of it as the Wiimote's rumble pack.  It will come packed in with a big exclusive, and it will be supported in many future games, but it's not the replacement for the Wiimote and you don't need it if you don't want it.
