Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony announces in-game advertising deal. (Oh Noes??) :O

The island, Tell me that Xbox fight simulator wasn't the single worst example of punch u in the face, scifi, advertising, narrative distorting bull. Its in the future and there are brands from now. This is my complaint. Let's say your playing scifi / fantasy / realism based game and theyre drinking budweiser / coke etc. It doesn't fit or work properly with the narrative, or audience.

Well, i guess 2001 got away with hilton.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

It depends on the game. Games like GTAIV, or CoD4 could having-game advertising with it actually adding to the game if done properly.

As long as we avoid games with advertisements that don't fit (eg. Macdonalds add's in the middle of FFXIII ) and SONY avoids advertising on the XMB then ill be happy. (seriously im surprised 360 owners don't care about the adds on the dash... )

I don't like overt adds, but I'm actually fine with product placement. I loved having an ipod in MGS4, so I'm ok with that kind of advertisement. But really long as it's something that doesn't interrupt my playing and I can ignore at will then I don't mind it.

I can see it now, Old Snake is having a caughing fit and goes to inject himself when suddenly,

"Head on! Apply directly to the head!"

"Head on! Apply directly to the head!"

"Head on! Apply directly to the head!"

"Head on! Apply directly to the head!"

That's absurd, everyone knows Snake drinks Regain® when he has fits.

I find it sad that people are ok with advertising in their video games =/ It's like everyones just accepted the fact that these people have the right to bombard you with products whenever they want.

If I'm playing a game and I suddenly find myself craving taco's for some weird reason, I'm going to be seriously pissed off.

How is an ad done properly?

Example ads on clothes, on walls like Nokia ads in Tony Hawk.

LOL Solid Snake rocks Nikes? =)

as long as pepsi comercials dont get inthe way ofmy gameing time the i dont care, but note that i wont be buying anything from games comercials

As long as they don´t stop the action to advertise the product, I don´t mind.

advertising in games is a good thing. Developers get more money to finance their game. And you want see advertising like coca cola in games like oblivion anyway. But advertising in car games, futuristic games and sandbox games is a good thing as long as the commercial fits in.

That sucks for PS3 fans, but you have to realize that Sony is desperate after the PS3 wiped out most of the profits made by the PS2. They need money, so they'll throw coke/monster/burger king ads at you all day to compensate.
