Forums - Gaming Discussion - is square enix remaking to much?

i know that they just announced chrono trigger for DS which is good, but dont you think they have been remaking a bit too much?

i mean they have remaked the final fantasys countless times, and they have also remaked the DQ series alot.

i dont mind when they remake a gmae, but i think theyve done it to many times with some games by remaking them more then once.

But like i said i dont mind them remaking there games, just not more then once

They need the extra money to keep the company alive until heavy hitters like FFXIII and DQIX are released.

I don't mind. I really enjoy both Squaresoft and Enix's old games. But I wouldn't mind a bit cheaper price on the ports/remakes though. SE tax is already dumb, and gets even dumber on remakes and ports.

Simple and short answer: YES. Back in the day they had talent to keep developing new and excellent IPs. Now they just remake old games.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Eh...

There old games are better then their new ones have been. So i really don't have a problem with it...

aside from the fact that i'm a supporter of ports not remakes.

To fully appreciate a game i believe you need to play it in it's original released form. (Well unless it has unplayable bugs.)

It's okey as long as it is old games beacuse those are the best ones they have done.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

what i want them to do is to start to remake FF7,8,9

I wouldn't have it any other way. As long as we are getting great games as remakes then I am all for it. For instance, they should have remade Secret of Mana and brought over Seiken Densetsu 3 as opposed to making Children of mana and World of Mana.

Not really.

I mean, it's not like remaking old games is hurting the development of their newer games. They're bigger, they have more resources than the used to, they can afford to remake old games. They put their best teams on the new games, I'm sure.

New games can be huge, and risky, investments for developers. They need to have a source of income to support these games, and they know there are plenty of fans willing to buy every remake of the old 8/16 bit RPGs.
