I like my Xbox 360 even though I dislike Microsoft. I'm able to separate a division or a product from a company. I don't hold Microsoft against the 360 itself in the same way I don't hold Sony's music division (rootkit fiasco) against the PS3.
It does bother me a lot that Microsoft has brought a lot of their bullshit business tactics into gaming though.

RROD? What console from Nintendo or Sony have gone through such a case of shoddy tech? You must hate reliability, right? |
I guess you were lucky enough not to end up like myself and many others that had to keep our PS1's on their side just to play a game? Then the 3 PS2's I went through because they wouldn't read the blue discs or DVDs. The last one had a laser just die after 3 months. Also who did you know that put an NES cartridge into their system and the game started up without the usual ritual of blowing the hell out of the cartidge and moving it side to side in the console? Then if that didn't work it was time for the alcohol and q-tips.
Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all have shareholders. These are the individuals that they are trying to please. The primary existence of all three is to make money, and they will use almost any means necessary to do so even at the expense of the social good. If one the aforementioned companies has earned people's "respect" its, in my opinion, due to good public relations rather than true integrity.
They all participate in some substantial charity work, and I try not to overlook this aspect. But, the skeptical side of me believes that the purposes of such work isn't due to philantrophy.
Systems Owned (in order of purchase)
NES, Genesis, SNES, N64, Xbox, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3

And @Shameless: Hardware generally does become less reliable OVER TIME. I've personally had one problem with the PS2 and DRE, but that was an easy fix. How many known cases of hardware were dead within the first week, though? I'm being modest. I've had a friend who's 360 died the day he bought it along with Halo 3.

Apart from the 360, I've found the opposite to be true with past console (Megadrive\NES\SNES\Saturn\PS1\N64\PS2)
I've had a NES that broke after a few months, and 1 that still works...Same with a SNES...A Megadrive that still works...Saturn that was dead after 7 months (laser) and a newer model version that still works...same with a PS1 and the same with a PS2...Although lately the CD reading has gone a bit dodgy...
Overall found that most the old gen consoles, as in Pre 360\PS3 get more reliable the longer you own them (much like a TV, if it doesn't break within a year it prolly won't "ever" break...almost literally ;))
Loyalty to any of these corporate giants is beyond my understanding.
They could care less about you, but they love your money.
I think its hilarious when fanboys cry foul, and feel betrayed by their "favorite company" when an exclusive goes multi, or if an exclusive switches sides. Completely pointless.
PS360 ftw!
Currently playing..........
Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )

There are other reasons to respect or not respect a corporation other than simply hardware reliability. Everyone that complains on Microsoft's monopoly seems to conveiently forget how Nintendo strong armed third parties into exclusivity contracts in the 1990s. Why do you think almost every third party jumped into Sony's arms the first chance they got? There's also that report that came out last year showing Nintendo's abysmal envionmental practices with disposing of waste. Didn't they score a 1 out of 10 or something? How about Sony shutting down that internet site Lik Sang or something just because they sold Japanese PSPs to Europeans? Also Sony doesn't always have grade A technology and you would know that if you owned any of their consoles other than the PS3. Both the PSOne and PS2 came with issues, and I don't remember getting any extended warranty when my PS2 laser had to be realigned because Sony allowed third parties to create different weighted DVDs that screwed with the alignment, like blue ones, gold ones and silver ones. How about Sony's inability to reach a conclusion with Immersion, causing them to lie about rumble's exclusion in the Sixaxis, which in the end, put more money in Sony's pocket and pissed off gamer's that now felt they needed controller replacements. The point is, none of them are shining beacons of honesty and good practices. They all have faults, so either respect them all with their faults, or don't respect any of them. In their gaming divisions I think Microsoft is trying the hardest at getting a great library for 360 owners, by any means necessary. That's all that matters to me is the games, and they've delivered again and again.

Both my Playstation and my Playstation 2 works to this very day.
Also, thats up the the individual
Actually it seems more like they are trying to stop sony more than anything. Otherwise why would they buy all the japanese RPGs concidering the 360 is doing the worst in japan ?
Honestly i think nintendo also screws their customers in many ways. And even Sony does it in some ways aswell..
But the worst is (IMO) undoubtfully Microsoft... but again thats just my opinion.

I can respect that, but is reliability really a non issue? That would influence my loyalties. |
Having two consoles quit reading disks didn't affect how I felt about Sony. Yes ... two PS2s I had to ship to Sony to repair that crap. I could care less about reliability, as long as the games are the bomb.
