There have been a lot of fighting series like Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Virtual Fighter, Smackdown,Street Fighter and others.  I believe the best fighting series is Tekken. i use to think it was Mortal Kombat. However, Mortal Kombat has fallen off a bit. Their next game in the series is going to bomb.(Mortal Kombat v.s. Dc Universe) Smackdown games also  have fallen off. After the WWF changed their name, there games became wack just like the company today. Tekken series never got old and Tekken 6 is going to be awesome.

Tekken and SSB are the only two fighting games I like.

Tekken by far ... of course NBs other fighter series , Soulcalibur comes close ;)

The Smash Bros. Series is very fun, I also like the Street Fighter Series, and the Soul Calibur series.

I just added Super Smash Bros. The current game in that series is the top selling game. When I get the Wii, I'm getting Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Street Fighter is good too. I hope Street Fighter IV will be awesome.

I notice that you're completely ignoring SNK fighters, which may or may not be intentional. Still, series like Last Blade, King Of Fighters, and Samurai Shodown are noteworthy. The Capcom (or SNK) VS. games as well; Marvel vs. Capcom, Capcom vs. SNK, et cetera. And Guilty Gear! Guilty Gear rocks.

As for the best? I'm partial to Soul Calibur, but I've been feeling let down since the third game of the series, and the fourth looks dubious at the moment...

There's alot of good fighting series. In my opinion I like tekken. marvel v.s. Capcom is good also. @ GooseGaws, did you know there's going to be a Marvel v.s. Capcom.
