Sony will not release a new console until PS3 starts to make a profit or gets close to that goal and I don't see that happening until 2012

So you think that because the PS3 is likely to be a financial failure for Sony that Sony may never release another console? Wouldn't it be in their interest to move forward beyond the PS3 if the PS3 continues costing them as much as it looks like it will continue costing them?

Why on earth would they leave billions on the table for no good reason?  Should they give Microsoft a two year head start this time?

They won't release it until the PS3 at least turns a profit, which won't be for a long time. The PS3 is supposed to have a 10 year life span, so 2015-2016 sounds more likely for the PS4

Yeah, BigfatJ, I know that. I didn't say Sony said PS3 would be their top machine during 10 years. Just that Sony said PS3 would have a 10-year lifespan. As in, sold in shops. However, should we expect to see PS4 in 2010, while PS3 was released at the very end of 2006, there no way in hell the thing'll last for 10 years.
Of course, that's presuming a new PS will be out in 2010, which it won't.

This is a really old article, so its validity is severely weakened. That leaves its credence as a serious point of discussion small at best.
