Forums - General Discussion - The Internet is killing english !!!...Or maybe it's the americans

Well you do have a point. It's getting pretty bad.

AND I WISH PEOPLE WOULD START UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "IT'S" AND "ITS"!

Seriously, I'm starting te believe hardly anyone on the internet knows how to use these correctly. Even on professional websites the mistakes are terrible. :p

You're absolutely correct. Its versus it's is a huge problem, and not just on the Internet. Personally my biggest pet peeve is when ignorant louts use "loose" in place of "lose."

However, I don't know why you are blaming Americans more than anyone else, although certainly we are no less to blame than anyone else.

Us Americans haven't killed English since the war of 1812.

The internet needs an age limit.

It's coming to the point where dialogue on the internet wouldn't even be readable by some one born before 19XX , I mean i'm very guilty of it myself but still it's quite worrying.

Most of the people who were born in the 19th century don't live anymore. There are hardly any alive people who are 110 years or older, so you don't have to worry about that.

Except that 19XX doesn't refer to the 19th Century Roland, it refers to the 20th

Yeah, but he is talking about people who were born before the 20th century or what is the 19th century by saying 19XX. This could mean anywhere from1900 to 1999.

Specially for someone to whom english isn´t the first language, I find harder and harder to understand what some people are saying.

FYI = for your information, right?

P.S. - It took me years to finally understand what was the ASAP I saw all the time on movies and TV.

P.S. 2 - By the way, what is P.S.?

There are just as many flaws when people talk in real life, so I'm not sure where the internet fits in here. In fact i've noticed most people type better than they speak because they have a bit more time to formulate their thoughts.

No whats killing the English language is the glorification of improper English on T.V.

"Like you know"

Generally I dont mind internet language, but for some reason I hate when people write:

"I should of done" instead of "I should have done".

Btw, what does IIRC mean?
