I agree with what you say about brand loyalty (I being a classic example - I buy every Nintendo console, virtually every creative mp3 player, have always stuck with nokia, have like a million timberland boots and tops, will never buy a car that isn't bmw).

However, I don't think there is any special link between blacks and Sony products. With certain brands of clothing yes, with benzes definitely. With Sony or any other electronic brand - no.

It's just that the PS2 was so popular, last gen. The PS1 dominated the gen before. To many, and not just blacks, the word "Playstation" means video games. My mom calls every video game "Nintendo", no matter who makes it.

To many, Playstation 3 is the only next gen option. For 10+ years, it's all they've known. Brand loyalty + strong brand name= Sony FTW.
