Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo is in an awkward situation... What will they do with Zelda?

There is nothing wrong with making a radical change to the series ala RE:CVX -> RE4. I guess it can go along the futuristic lines of FFVII onwards.

Just put Link in the future about 20 years in the Middle East, searching for a man he has a vendetta with. "Link? Liiiiiiiiink!!!!!" ;p

Honestly, though, what IS the traditional zelda? 1 and 2 were very different, and 3 was more like 1, OOT and TP were similar, and Majoras Mask had elements of OOT, but very different at the same time. WW was entirely different from the others outside of the dungeons.

All I know is that a bunch of my female gamer friends were pissed off when they saw that Link was not wearing tights in TP =D

Whats the future hold? MMORPG zelda? God, I know a dozen people who would quit their jobs for that.

Oh, and TO HELL with that cel shading crap. It took me so long to ignore it just to actually enjoy WW.

I'm just really happy to see much love for MM...it really is one of the best in the series imho and and arguably one of the most under-rated zelda's. As you all said, either direction he (Aonuma) takes will gain criticism and praise, so he might as well go with it. Even if it is rubbish it will still sell well and make a better one next time around where fans would come crawling back anyway.

One thing the next Zelda NEEDS: Koji Kondo.

Twilight Princess's soundtrack was rather unmemorable, and it didn't provide the overworld with that same awesome atmosphere that the soundtracks of LttP, OoT, and MM did.

Yes. TP and PH had very weak soundtracks. Espesically PH.

Ranking the soundtracks for me (of the games I've played)

As for the overall games

You forgot a game. :P

I won't point it out. ^_^

I'm twitching really hard and I can barely breathe.

Forogot more than Majora's Mask. Where are Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Time, and Four Swords Adventure?

Notice that I said "of the Zelda games I've played".

I left out the following:

Link's Awakening

Majora's Mask

Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages

Four Swords

Four Swords Adventures

Because I have not played them.

Top 3 favorite games: Super Mario Galaxy, The Sims 2 (PC), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Valley of the Deluge? Sequel to TP? Just make a great game please. If Miyamoto produces from start to finish than I won't have any complains.

Pixel Art can be fun.

What i mean by this is..

on one hand we have many parties complaining about how Zelda has been the same for way to long and they need to do something new.

on the other hand, many fans would cry foul at any Zelda that doesnt have the same master sword/hyrule etc theme

so, what will Nintendo do? can they possibly satisfy both halves?

A new IP. I don't want it to change. Maybe that's what the up and coming PIT game will be.

Reading through this thread alone completely validates the OP.. there is an utterly different opinion on how it should be in every post

Is Sheik a man or a woman?

Man obviously.  Zelda changes into Sheik through magic so it's not like it's a simple change of clothes.

This is so wrong! It's disguise magic, not tranny magik!

I'd love some JRPG influences in the next Zelda, especially the FF4 industrial age theme is something I really would like to see.
Also a more complicated storyline and indeed the WindWaker-type sidequests would be much appreciated.

Im on the opposite side of the fence from you Benga. I can't stand integration of fantasy settings with industrial. Robots and airships need to keep away from anything dealing with magic, elves dragons, etc. Maybe its because I can't stand sci-fi, but I hate when sci-fi is integrated into an otherwise fantasy fiction setting.

Nintendo said Twilight Princess would be the last "Ocarina of Time-style Zelda" so that group is going to be pissed.

If you look at Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Nintendo discarded the D-Pad + Buttons for a touch-screen controls.

At the very least, expect the next Zelda Wii game to really focus on a Wiimote-only control scheme. Simplified controls will be the number 1 priority.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
