Forums - General Discussion - How will homosexuality will affect us in the future,Are you happy about it?

Just like someone's malformed "hairlip" doesn't affect me in any way, neither does someone's predisposed by birth affection for the same sex.

I could care less.

I should really give my reasoning for creating the thread so you can understand the intention behind it. I'm not used to watching TV with homosexual content in it ( I understand it's going to be the norm as time passes) but it kinda caught me off guard when I saw it in Hollyoaks , it's kinda the norm to see it in holyoaks and a few other T.V ( I don't watch alota soaps) .

Then there was a T.V advert which was removed because of complaints about the content.

then I got to thinking how much will the acceptance of homosexuality in media , every day life etc affect us . I'm not so bothered to have an argument as to wether it will have any affect what so ever because it's guaranteed to. What i'm more concerned is how it will affect us , wether it's seen as a beneficial change or a negative one , how peopel are responding to it etc.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

The only effect it has on the US is in politics. Personally, I believe my generation (20's and down) are mostly apathetic or accepting of homosexuals.

Being a Republican though, I believe it will take some time for the party to catch up with my generation's main belief that homosexual marriage isnt wrong and should be legalized. I believe eventually, it will lead to a rift in the Republican party/ Conservatives.

The reason the gay rights movement has been off to such a slow start when compared to the civil rights movement or women's rights movement, is this:

If you're born black, you have an automatic support network: your black parents and any extended family or neighbors.

If you're born a woman, you have an automatic support network: your mother and any sisters, aunts, grandmothers, and female friends.

If you're born gay, the chances of your parents being gay are rather slim, so you're not guaranteed an instant support network. You might have evil parents who hate you, disown you, and kick you out of the house. It's luck of the draw that way, and totally sucks. This is also what creates large gay communities. So many people are forced out of their homes when they're young and broke and they need to find a safe place where the rednecks won't kill them, so they all end up in San Francisco, Miami, or West Hollywood.

Fortunately, it's not as bad as it used to be, but it's still totally fucking evil and horrible.

So while it might look like a modern gay rights movement just popped up out of nowhere, it's actually been around since the 1860s in Germany, but marginalized by all the haters.

First it was considered a sin and punishable by death for centuries. Then the first big social change was calling them "homosexuals" (intentionally a very technical scientific-sounding professional term) so we could consider it a mental disease and put them in mental hospitals instead of prisons. It was illegal for men to bone each other in Germany from 1871 until 1994. It seriously took that long. and that's in Germany, the country that started the modern gay rights movement.

And in America, the American Psychiatric Association considered homosexuality a mental illness until 1974.

Over a hundred years of people fighting and dying just for equal treatment.

And to this day people worry "Hm, if weirdos get equal treatment, how will that affect humanity!?!?"

NIGGA PLEEZE.

I thought about posting my thoughts in this thread... But on second thought I don't want to be attacked for being too conservative, which I would be viewed as. The vast interwebz doesn't like too many Conservatives it would seem...

My opinion: You can't be conservative enough.

When was the first time you remember thinking about a girl "in that way?"  That's how old gay people are when they find out.
