Forums - Sony Discussion - 2.40, Has It Lived Up To Your Expectations?

Of course its lived up to my expectation, it has delivered everything I have wanted.

Around the Network

ask me on wednesday, im sure to say "this is great"

Well I was very enthusiastic for the trophy system but I've since found that it is not retroactive, i.e. it will not read my current game saves and give me trophies accordingly. I don't suppose I'll ever bother to get 100% in GTAIV again, or play through Ninja Gaiden Sigma through all four difficulties again and do all the Missions again. Same with DMC4. That ruins it a bit for me. I was also concerned about MGS4 but thanks to Ail above^ for the smart idea of saving just before the end (since I havn't tried for the hardest emblems yet).

As for the in-game XMB, I really don't know what all the fuss is about and could take it or leave it.

Surpassed my expectations, tbh. :D

Ahh.. but remember my friend. this is only In-game XMB v1.00 and trophy v0.90. More will come.

OT: I don;t have it so I don't know

ahh, but microsoft get direct funding from their customers for xbox live, so the evolution of their service will be a liiitle easier for them. it took psn 1.5 years to get here. when will more come?

I don't really do anything with my PS3 except play MGS4 and Uncharted. As a fairly new user, I don't know what the big deal is about these additions, but I welcome them nonetheless.

@ DOATS1
Well by that logic one could say it took MS 6 years to get live where it's at today, so if you look at it from that standpoint Sony is doing very good. Beyond that i know Phil had said before he left that they were looking at a number functions to add to in game XMB down the road such as Screnn captureing. As you look back Sony has done a ton in a year and a half with firmware updates, and for a service that is free, it is really starting to take shape nicely. I know MS fanboys won't want to admit it but Sony is really closeing the gap in functionaity of the online services at a nice pace. I think it's very concievable that in a year we might even be able to say PSN is a better service. Sony has really done a nice job of cleaning up PSN.

Wait. Hold on a minute. It took M$ SIX years to get to where they are today, And that's with the $50/year fee. Sony catching up within 1.5 years and keeping their service free is a much, MUCH greater accomplishment.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

I think its great...
But now that we have these features, I want more, and now can focus more on the things the PSN still lacks.

Still no voice chat across games
Still no game invites (although one could send a message to a friend, and then send an invite to that friend once they are in the game, i.e. COD4)

its funny that there are all these great additions, but the simplist of all.. the clock is a big one.
Why can the PS3 not tell time? Now it can. Kinda funny to me.

Questions
1. When will these developers patch these games to have trophies? (it better be soon)

2. Will any of them find a way to retroactively add achievements? (either way this is no big deal, but would be nice)

3. Will the gamer profile ever be implemented the way it is on the XBL dashboard.
what I mean is, instead of clicking on the profile under your name, it should just appear when you scroll over your name, or it should appear by your name automatically. People will constantly want to know their scores, and having this graphic on a main section of the XMB would be beneficial.

Either way, I do actually look forward to playing my games again to get the trophies, and I look forward to playing some of them to completion for the first time.

Great Update.

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

This is the biggest update so far for the PS3, and I am dissapointed in one thing, that is the trophy support.

I really dont see 3rd parties patching there games, even if sony tells them to, they wont. Assassins creed, call of duty 4, The orange box, heck even Metal gear solid 4 might not get any patch at all.

I seriously hope we do get patches within the week for lots of major games, because the trophy support is seriously lacking right now.

Everything else is ok, digging the IN GAME XMB, and new profile cards.
