Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN says Sony's trophy system will walk all over Xbox 360's achievements

I'm interested to see how the Trophies work and I'm glad Sony is implementing a system to keep track of in-game achievements, but this line is fanboy bullshit:

"My Xbox 360 GamerScore is somewhere close to 17,000 right now. If I get an Achievement worth 10 points, that doesn't mean a whole lot at this point. But on the PS3, if I'm at Level 12, I know that every Bronze Trophy brings me one step closer to Level 13."

You mean like how those 10 points take you one step closer to 18,000? What a jackass. Oh, the comment about only playing Gears 2 is ridiculous as well. No one has even really seen much of Microsoft's upcoming games in action.

But, this obviously means it's better. It's not like the two other people's impressions were basically "Yeah, it's the same thing, but slightly different. Whatever, nice to have it, at least." Oh wait, that pretty much was their response. I think this one guy's idiocy trumps their understated, levelheaded approach.

It was only Chris Roper (Playstation Editor in Chief) and Greg Miller.  I'm just trying to point out that these people both work almost exclusively on playstation games and don't have exactly an unbiased opinion before people crown PS acheivements trophies, better than Microsofts.  The walk all over part actually came from Greg Miller.  Chris just said that he prefered trophies over points but others wouldn't see it that way.I'm not arguing that it won't be nice to have something where nothing was before.  I just think walk all over is a little bold.

I honestly don't get the big idea with Gamerscores and Trophies, I find it ludicrous tbh. Such features will never be a selling point or added bonus for me and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this.
Home looks cool but the Trophies bit seems to be its most useless feature to date.

I think its not a selling point as much as it is an upgrade for current users... beacuase there has been A LOT of crying about how 360 has achevements and the PS3 has nothing.... personally i never cared for it but its a nice bonus if anything.

nice, but your missing Resistance: Fall of Man. Ted Price announced support a while ago.

Really? I heard the opposite. Good if they do patch Resistance, give me a good reason to go back and play part 1 b4 part 2 releases. It's going to hurt my eyes going back to play Resistance after playing MGS4 lol.

Eurogamer = 360 biased

IGN = PS3 super biased...

Trophies? is this going to take up more unnecessary space on my harddrive? I really don't see the attraction in trophies/home/gamerscore once I finish a game, chances of going back to it are slim to none unless its a game where you compete against other humans (racing/fighting/shooters). And these trophies aren't going to change a thing.

why does everyone call starcraft to a thread before he is even online, lol. starcraft isnt has half as fanboyalized as he used to be, its gone alil boring to be honest, i just wish i could have the old starcraft for just one day,

the same starcraft that hit his head of the door in a 360 rage, remember that

A few select members on this site should remember that inciden captainpreferences comes to mind

Isn't the guy a bit biased? I mean i don't doubt that trophies might be better than achievements, but the way he says it sounds like a PS3 fanboy. Oh well...

IGN fails again what a bad article.

Achievement or Trophy Systems are just for obsessive people with no lives to play video games all day 24/7. Big deal. "I have a Level 100, My 360 score is over 100 000 points. I am also unemployed, 28 years old and I live off my mum and dad".

Stolen from NeoGAF:

Gaming has changed. It's no longer about fun, challenges, or storytelling. It's an endless series of point whoring done by gamers on machines. Gaming - and its consumption of life - has become a well-oiled machine.

Gaming has changed. ID-tagged gamers play on ID-tagged consoles, use ID-tagged accounts. Specifications inside their save files enhance and regulate their rewards. Trophy control. Gamerscore control. Parental control. Region-specific differences control. Everything is monitored and kept under control.

Gaming has changed. The age of next-gen promises has become the age of control... All in the name of averting catastrophe from casual gaming and waggle. And he who controls the most features... Controls the console war.

Gaming has changed. When the consoles are under total control... ...Gaming becomes routine.

Wow.....

Thanks for showing this, I feel a whole lot better after reading this, now I just need trophy support for MGS4 so I can go replay it :P
