Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN says Sony's trophy system will walk all over Xbox 360's achievements

A gamerscore is pudy next to the trophies. You can get 1000pts easily for beating games.

Yes, and? You'll get a platinum trophy for railing an easy game, won't you?

That is, provided that the developer deigns to support trophies at all. Standardization (or lack thereof) might seriously gimp the trophy system.

Goddamnist Skip Now I want to go back and play through that game again for the 8th time.

Back on topic: I personally have never been a fan of the "achivments" Thins so the trophies do little for me. i am glad however that it's there for those who are into that sort of thing, and it does look like Sony did a really good job with it. Sony is doing a nice job of getting PSn into ship shape.

"The 2.40 firmware is bringing in-game XMB and trophies. The first games getting trophy support include BUZZ! Quiz TV, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, NBA 09, PAIN, PixelJunk Eden, Resistance 2, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation and Warhawk. Some of those games (like PAIN and Warhawk) require a game update for trophies. More info is detailed in the presser. That, after the jump!"

So, 10 games opposed to 500 games. And a general game score opposed to a collection of unique actions in each game that leads you to an achievement and makes you play the game again and again.
Yeah, I can clearly see now why this weirdo thinks Trophies will walk all over Achievements.

I had always wondered, why multiplatform titles sold more on XBOX 360 ?  . ....  Achievments .

Expect the the increase in PS3 titles New or platinum by courtesy of .....Trophies and levelling up.

Sony struck Gold.

I just died a little inside with these two statements:

"Once this Trophy thing gets going, I'm done with Achievements."

"The only time I will ever turn my xbox on again is for Gears 2, otherwise it's all ps3"

It seems like this guy only plays game for achievements/trophies.

Maybe it's just me.  My interpretation is, this guy chose Xbox360 version over PS3 version ONLY for achievements.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

Actually, the guy just hates the xbox 360. http://blogs.ign.com/Greggy-IGN/2008/04/15/86861/#comments

Got a 360 for free.  Tried a few games for it.  Would have chucked it for only a ps3 if he wouldn't have bought DLC for Rock Band.

But, this obviously means it's better. It's not like the two other people's impressions were basically "Yeah, it's the same thing, but slightly different. Whatever, nice to have it, at least." Oh wait, that pretty much was their response. I think this one guy's idiocy trumps their understated, levelheaded approach.

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.

cool,i wanna them to go live as soon as possible

I really do like the look of the new Trophy system. Does anyone know if games that patch trophies in will backtrack our saved games to automatically give us our "trophies" or will we have to start them all over again?

You have to backtrack and start again according to Joystiq. Also, Trophies only apply initially for a handful of games, and wonder how long it will take Sony to apply this to all their first party. Also, it doesnt seem like a mandatory thing that third parties need to do so I wonder how fast the uptake will be. So far only 2 future third parties will have it.

Here is the list:

  • BUZZ! Quiz TV
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • MotorStorm Pacific Rift
  • NBA 09
  • PAIN**
  • PixelJunk Eden
  • Resistance 2
  • SOCOM: Confrontation
  • Super Stardust HD**
  • Warhawk**

** Requires game update to install Trophies. (And requires you to play again to unlock them.)

Update: PS3 Fanboy informs us of the first two third-party games (!) confirmed to feature Trophies: BioShock and Tiki Games' self-published PSN shooter, Novastrike.
