I honestly don't get the big idea with Gamerscores and Trophies, I find it ludicrous tbh. Such features will never be a selling point or added bonus for me and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this.
Home looks cool but the Trophies bit seems to be its most useless feature to date.

I'd say the opposite... Trophies/Achievements are an extension of "high scores", something which has existed for very long. Home, on the other hand, looks like a gimmicky emo-oriented fad.

But hey, opinions...

I could care less about neither Home nor Trophies and would agree that Home is gimmicky... but emo? Huh?

I think it looks designed for the Myspace-type crowd. I mean, who else is going to waste time moving virtual furniture around to get a pretty virtual house where they can invite their friends?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think these Second-Life type things attract the emo crowd the most.

Personally, I feel that the reward for playing a game HAS to be in the game itself. Sure, it's nice to have leaderboards for certain games, but they mean nothing unless the game itself is leaderboard-worthwhile. For adventure/rpg/simulation/strategy games at least high scores or achievements/trophies hold very little value. The reward is in the gameplay. And I'd argue the same goes for first and 3rd person shooters as well. But that's just me, ymmv. If you're the type of person who wants to share how much and how well you play, then I guess there's some point in them...

I cant see how someone can say one is better than the other since both are basicly the same thing just going about it in a slightly diff way. 360 has had this from the start nw ps3 has it if just in a slightly diff form. If you like the 360 set up then you will like the ps3 to, if you dont like the 360 then you wont like the ps3 version. I like the 360s set up and I like the sound of whats going on with the ps3 to but thats just me each to his or her own. Did find the article a little fanboyish but hey lol.

P.S its really not just a random number system on the 360 you can see exactly what they have unlocked as well as compaire youre own game to someone els who has the same game and see what they have unlocked.

It should be -- it's coming how many years later?

Whatever you call them, trophies/achievements are useless anyway. It's just a low-tier way for people to up their e-penis. Just go beat some hard games instead.

Actually I think the Achievements are cool although I never connect my 360 to the Internet. I reckon many people use them as an e-penis ruler, but to me they're just a cool extension of high scores, with specialized objectives and things to try. I haven't cared much about them so far, but I probably will when I have more time to play games.

I just died a little inside with these two statements:

"Once this Trophy thing gets going, I'm done with Achievements."

"The only time I will ever turn my xbox on again is for Gears 2, otherwise it's all ps3"

It seems like this guy only plays game for achievements/trophies.

I don't think this achievment system could have been done without the imense power of the cell.
