Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN says Sony's trophy system will walk all over Xbox 360's achievements

Can you use the Trophies you gain in your apartment in HOME?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Both Home and Gamerscores/Trophies are both useless in my opinion. Gamerscore really isn't an extension of "high scores." Leaderboards are highscores. A high Gamerscore just means you have a ton of time on your hands, and you play a lot of shitty games to boost your score.

Agreed on gamerscores, but trophies/achievements give you additional reason to play the game and try to achieve some set objective besides the ones you have to achieve to finish the game. I don't think they're useless.

sorry but i agree with mummelman trophies/gamerscore just seem very useless

I seriously doubt it. Trophies are better than nothing, but no comparison to achievements.

there are some games I will play through and unlock everything anyway, so the trophies are a nice addition for me there

I honestly don't get the big idea with Gamerscores and Trophies, I find it ludicrous tbh. Such features will never be a selling point or added bonus for me and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this.
Home looks cool but the Trophies bit seems to be its most useless feature to date.

Maybe I'm just looking at this a little different but I like getting praised for doing stuff.  I don't really want to compare myself to others but when I do something in a game that's really hard for me I wouldn't mind a little message popping up and saying "good job!" or something.

Trophies seem kind of like that to me.  I'm not the best player or even really good at a lot of games so it's sometimes hard for me, but just getting a little trophy that says "Hey, you did something cool" would be fun and nice for me.

these features really are excellent

Oh yea, don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong with people trying to get 1000/1000 for a game they own.  It gives a great incentive to play the game a certain way or to try certain things in the game, which is great.  I personally am not interested in that sort of stuff unless with some exceptions (MGS4 emblems).

I think it's pathetic though when people are buying games like Avatar: The Last Air Bender and those Burger King games SOLELY to boost their gamerscore.  And that's why I don't think Gamerscore is a good indication of whether or not you are good at games, while a high score in a game generally is a direct correlation of how good you are at that game.  Gamerscore is less about skill, than about time and willingness to play shitty games.
