Why have Sony decided to release the latest FW, Version 2.40 this week a whole 2 weeks before E3?

FW 2.40 will include 2 massive new features with In-Game XMB and Trophies.  These are massive new features for the PS3, so why not delay the press release until E3....they could have used the good publicity about the new features to enhance their presentation at E3!?

Well, unless Sony have something else up their sleeves.

Could we be seeing more information about Home and maybe even a date?  Could it be coming sooner than expected?

Becuase they listen to there consumers, and would have been shot if they delayed it another week(true story).

no, no, no way. it's been long overdue and it's nothing to brag about, especially since it's closest competition has had it since 2005, and the ps3 is only getting it now.

how could you possibly think that delaying it is a good thing? it's ready, so what the hell. 

I see it like this. It's best for them to release this feature as soon as possible so that when the E3 Sony Conference hits, Sony can then announce more titles that can feature the trophy system. Or they might even announce something regarding Home.

We all know Sony needed to release it to the PS3 users soon, so getting it out the picture now is prefect so that when E3 releases we PS3 users can be even more excited to see what they will present.

This does seem like Sony has a lot more up their sleeve with the PS3. At least a lot of people will be buying those platinum hits when they are released for trophy points.

Video service will be released at E3 so thats one good thing. I guess we have home, Final Fantasy, Heavy Rain, probably Uncharted/Jak game. I mean Sony has enough that we know about at E3. Maybe they even have a small price drop left as well? Who knows.

But releasing this info early shouldn't take the wind out of Sony's E3 sails. I'm sure they have something. I mean, they are Sony.

So that when E3 comes, they can say something along the lines like "We have constantly been updating our PSN service and PS store. Earlier on the year, we revamped the PS store based on consumer's taste, then just two weeks ago, we updated the PS3 with In-game XMB with (insert features of 2.4 here) based on what consumers wanted most. I think this goes to show how we are delivering on what consumers want in terms of Hardware - price drop, bringing the 80 gb back- Software - more AAA games with GTA 4, MGS4, and more to come - and free online gaming..."

Edit: I just read what I wrote, and wow, that really sounds like something that they would (and should) say.

but I was tired of hearing people complain so I told it was okay to share my b-day gift.

If it's finished and properly tested....why not? Get it going and running before E3 not in E3

when was this officially confirmed for july 2nd? i thought all the news was for the demo video.
