RockBand just effectively cut off a few hundred thousand sales. Good job Rockband. I hope Microsoft paid well.

Weren't you just saying earlier in the thread that no one is going to be playing RB2 over GH4 anyways?

I need to remember your name, so I don't accidently read one of your stupid posts again.

DMeisterJ and I don't always agree on game-related issues.  But if you imply that he is stupid again, I will bitchslap you back to Sunday.

In fact, here is a pre-emptive cyber-slap:

*SMACK-WHACK-BOOM*

Do we understand eachother kid?

Oh yes sir! I tremble in the presence of your overactive imagination!! I've gotta get back to reality right now though. But when you get a chance do read my post again. His posts are what I'm calling stupid. No sound reason to them.

In person, however, I'm sure DJ Meister is just a fine gentleman.

My biggest problem is that Rock Band 2 is coming out in September

Doesn't that seem a little soon for anyone else?

I think this is a quick game putting all there efforts on the 360 so that they can beat GH:WT to market. Once it's out for 360 then they can work on the other versions.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Thats fine by me. I decided from the start that since MTV is involved with Rock Band, that I would never ever buy it. MTV wants a game based on the rock genre, but refuse to play any MUSIC VIDEOS that are from the rock genre. All they show are hip hop and pop videos. Screw MTV for crapping on rock music and then trying to milk it via videogames.

Sorry, MTV is one of my top hated companies, right after the guys making the atom smasher in france.

That's probably because the pople running BET bought MTV. (And half the time they don't even PLAY Music Videos, It's just Reality-TV)

That's why VH1 >>> MTV, IMO.

That's incorrect! Viacom owns MTV and then purchased BET. They also own VH1, so I'm not seeing your point. VH1 seems to have the majority of the reality shows anyway.

Wow... IDK why I just typed that bolded part...  But, seriously, VH1 doesn't have more reality shows, It still has less, and the VH1 reality shows are more music-based than MTV's.

Does anyone think that Rock Band rushing to launch in September, rather than November per usual screams of what Microsoft did with the XBOX 360 launching a year early?

We all know how that turned out... Hope RockBand doesn't suffer the same fate.

Wow i'm surprised nobody has called you out on this yet.

You're defending GH in this thread as the "better game" and yet in this post you criticize RB for rushing to launch products?

Let's just go over the history of the franchises in the past two years and what we know about next year:

Guitar Hero Rock Band
July '07 Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's -
Nov. '07 Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Rock Band
June '08 Guitar Hero: Aerosmith -
Fall '08 Guitar Hero: World Tour Rock Band 2
Q1 '09 Guitar Hero: Metallica -

If we assume both keep the trend of the next main series (GH: 5 and RB3) releasing in Fall '09, almost guaranteed but not confirmed, that means in 3 years RB has 3 games and GH has at least 6.   And I would not be surprised at all if that increases with another GH: "Insert X Band Here" announced for summer '09 like Aerosmith.

I can't believe how much damage control people are doing in this thread by saying "MS gained nothing" and "after GH4 nobody will talk about RB" and "Cheers to MS for buying exclusivity to a game no one will be playing".  RB was one of the most popular games released last year and even earned GOTY nominations from some people.  Just accept the fact that a solid game has been pushed back for PS3 and move on.  I'll still grab it for the PS3 when it comes out probably closer to the holidays.

Rock The 80's was a spin-off and was Harmonix's contractual fulfilment. Aerosmith & Metallica are/will be spinoffs.

Yeah I know but spinoffs or not, they still cost full price. Not full price as in with all the instruments but the same cost of buying GH:Aerosmith standalone will get you GH:WT standalone.

For it to be a real spinoff that doesn't seem to be just exploiting the consumer they should be substantially cheaper. Even though the RB Track Pack seems like a ripoff for PS2/Wii owners since they get no DLC at least it's at a discounted price.

That's why I like DLC. Instead of paying the full price for spinoffs and getting songs I don't want, I can just pick and choose from their library. And Harmonix has a massive DLC library up that dwarfs GH's DLC. I doubt it'll be much bigger for GH:4 either. With all the different GH games and "spinoffs" they release frequently they wouldn't want to put up too much DLC that it starts to hurt their retail sales.

And I know just like ppl pick and choose DLC you can pick and choose the games if you don't care for Aerosmith/Metallica.  But I made that list moreso to counter DmeisterJ's point about RB rushing to market when clearly they are proceeding slower than GH.

Ouch, that is fairly big.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

It's really a stupid decision in my opinion. The competition in the music games market is strong and Guitar Hero is the bigger player. A "timed exclusive" is good when you have no other alternative. Now that Activision has decided to imitate the concept of Rockband while giving a good Wii version and releasing the games on all 4 platforms (let's not forget the PS2 which had the best sales for both franchises so far). Also, the owners of GH3/GH2 are likely to upgrade to GH:WT as they can use their guitar controller to have a full band.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

I have to admit I loled when I read this: "Microsoft has been a great partner throughout the launch of Rock Band in the last year and their continued support is instrumental in supporting the more advanced features and cross title compatibility we will have in Rock Band 2." --> "M$ paid through the teeth and we love them"

Still congrats to 360 owners. you rock.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
