Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The next Mario tennis game?

I hope they release one for the DS as well. I loved the GBC version of that game.

Mario Tennis seems reduntant when most get Wii Sports with the Wii.

But you can't control where your Mii runs to. I don't really care for realistic sports, but I love arcade sports. Wii sports controls, arcade type gameplay and more complete controls would be great.

I'm excited for a new Mario Tennis game. The N64 and Gamecube versions are both really fun, and with the Wii's control scheme, it can only get better.

Somehow, I am NOT expecting Mario Golf or Mario Tennis.

If there was going to be a Mario Golf, there would not be We Love Golf coming out. Not that Nintendo does not want third-party software, but rather it probably would not let the company that has twice done Mario Golf do essentially the same game for another developer.

Similarly, Sega Superstarts Tennis on the Wii is similar to what Mario Tennis would be -- all be it with Sega characters (and cross-platform to boot). So the current demand for a character-based tennis game may not be high (and the demand may not exist at all after the Sega game did not fare well -- which is a shame).

Also, since Nintendo has released four super-star-sellers since December (SMG, MKWii, WiiFit, and SSBB has all sold at least 5M copies WW -- giving them at least a 17% attach rate), it is doubtful that tennis or golf would be released before 2009 (along with perhpas another Mario Party).

I buy your argument for Mario Golf, as I believe We Love Golf will be a good game, however I don't buy it for Mario Tennis.

From what I understand, you might as well be playing on the PS3 or X360 of Sega Superstars Tennis, as the motion controls do nothing. They don't adjust power, spin, direction, or anything. We need a good arcade tennis game that at least uses motion control as much as Wii sports did.

Mario Tennis >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wii Sports Tennis

I never played GC Mario Tennis but N64 Mario Tennis is one of my favorite games. They should add online play for Mario Tennis Wii and release it early 2009. The only reason I like Mario Tennis is playing it with my friends so I would absolutely need the online.

In Sega Superstars Tennis, you swing the Wiimote like you do in Wii Tennis.
Most reveiws -- IGN notwithstanding -- preferred the Wii version to the PS3 and X360 versions, even though the HD consoles had on-line play. And this was because of the controls.

I think my rationale was that Nintendo may let third parties do those games this generation -- or at least til later in this generation -- since they already exist in some form.

Mario Tennis! Yeah! I've been wondering where that game is too! I'm sure there'll be one eventually, but it probably won't be announced until after Sluggers is out. Or who knows, maybe it'll turn up at E3. Would be sweet, Tennis was awesome on the N64 and Gamecube, and the GB and GBA versions were pretty cool too. :) Tennis was way better than its Golf and Baseball counterparts anyway.
