Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What do you think of the GameCube's controller?

I didn't like it very much because of the way the "command buttons" on the right side were shaped and arranged (ie. asymmetrical and different sizes). What do you think of it? especially in comparison to the Wiimote, which is a giant leap imo.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

A step down from their N64 controller, in my opinion, and the worst of last generation.

I love it, maybe small but feels responsive

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

i liked the GC controller. i though it was the best one last gen

A great controller but I hate the d pad on it.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Only thing I did not like about the GC controller was that you have this big A button and right next to it, this tiny little B button. I don't know what Nintendo was thinking, but I can't seem to change my thumb size on the fly, ain't easy you know...

I hated it. After playing with it for a while though you get used to it.

I would have rather had the N64 controller. I loved that thing.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I like it, I play brawl with it.

Out of the three controllers, it was tied for second with the DS2, but lightyears better than the original XBOX.

Things that sucked on it. The C-stick. Which was a horrible 2nd analog stick. Also, the way that the analog stick is sectioned off like a octagon, instead of rounded pisses me off. But I liked the asymmetrical buttons in hindsight. And I loved the L and R triggers. It felt extra comfortable in my hands.

I liked the button configuration, it meant I could slide between buttons with my thumb, with the spaced out PS buttons you can't press the top and bottom at the same time.

The one thing I didn't like was the small d-pad.

I really like the Gamecube controller... The only thing about it that could arguably be bad is the Z-button... It really is the only flaw in the design i.m.o.

Furthermore, I would agree with the fact that the controller isn't as well suited for FPS-games as it's competitors back in the day. But well, Gamecube didn't get that much to be bothersome.

It's also the only console of which I have purchased 4 controllers! It's a pitty Nintendo stopped producing Wavebirds, since demand is still high because of VC and optional GC-controller use in the latest hit-entries from Nintendo's biggest franchises.

And if one would ask... PS2/Xbox/GC controller; GC>>>PS2>>>Xbox, controller-wise.
