Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Great for M$, Sony in trouble

Has anyone else noticed the sales in America. MGS4 hasnt even been out for 2 weeks and PS3 sales in america are less than the 360 last week. In fact PS3 sales in general WW are poor in MGS4's 2nd week. M$ has an amazing 2nd half of 2008 lineup, and I believe Sony will and should be worried. Sony stand to lose any ground they made up over the last 6-7 months and lose some more. What do you think? Are you surprised with the PS3 sales in MGS4's 2nd week?

I am not surprised. MGS doesn't have enough of a fanbase to hold sales for that long. This is true especially since the PS3 is doing so badly .

Didn't you make this same thread a couple days ago? Yer really doom and gloom on the PS3 lately.

...

hmm well i was expecting sales like this, i would say next week mgs4 will be either off the top 5 world charts or at least at the very bottom. It is a tight strugle betwene 360 and ps3 though and I think both companies are fighting the best they can. If mgs4 was to also be on the 360 im sure it would get more of the sales it deserves. The ps3 just doesnt sell games the way the 360 does :(

edit: Does it deserve more sales? I havnt actually really even looked at the game, I just know if it was also on 360 it would have recieved at least half a million to a million more sales and the ps3 wouldnt have sold many more consoles. It probably would have sold more on the 360 then ps3 to hehehe (just my opinion of course I dont mind if you see it diferently)

If at first you don't succeed, you fail

I am surprised it dropped so quickly in ALL regions.

And the thing is, this was EASILY Sony's biggest game this year for the PS3.

On the flipside, Microsoft hasn't had one big exclusive yet.

I think the spike in sales had as much to do with the 80 gig PS3 then it did with MGS. I think those sold out rather fast, and Sony did a crapy job of keeping a stream of them coming in. Once more show up, they will sell better.

I think sony should target japan more. That is an area Microsoft could never go to. Anyway we've been seeing a lot of threads like this one. Please go post your opinion in one of the other ps3 doomed threads.

why are you so worried about PS3 lately?do you have nightmares about PS3 at nights?do you dream about a big black shiny machine chasing you while you can't scream no matter how hard you try?

What I write ahead is purely speculation based on what I think, and has no proof. I don't expect it to be 100% correct, so don't flame.

I think that Sony is realizing they don't have as big of a hardcore (as in brand loyalty) fan base as they thought. The problem is that this gen they're having a really hard time grabbing the casual crowd for two very big reasons. Price point of the PS3 and the existance of the Wii. I'm pretty sure it was the casual gamers that made Sony so big the last two generations.

So to me it seems that as long as they keep catering only to the hardcore fanbase, they really won't expand. In order to gain extreme popularity and turn things around, they need more mainstream appeal. It seems like it might be a little late for that though.

The sales figures had only been finished this morning for last week. So I posted my thoughts. Ive actually stuck up for MGS4 alot recently. But it was just the hardware sales that surpirsed me. I never expected the 360 to outsell the PS3 in america in week 2 of MGS4.
