Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is MS's total investment in the 360, in the black?

I hear rumors about price drops and such, and I was just curious. I know MS is making money now, but have the recuped all there losses on the 360, or still paying that dept down?

they are still in the red, but there is a chance they won't be by the end of this generation.
If they do get into the black, That would be a major step ahead, since the first xbox lost them billions.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... how much are the losses for the two xbox's combined?

dang some of the biggest companies around don't even have $6 billion to lose

I don't count the first XBox. That we should just write off as a loss, and start over.

If you feel you need to include previous gaming revenue, you would have to include PC gaming as well, and if you did that, they would already be out of the red, by tens of billions.

So the answer is 1.5 billion. Thanks :)

You think that's alot? MS wants to buy yahoo for like, 30 million? was it? I won't know, but it was a massive amount.

MS hasn't made that much in PC gaming.  They don't get revenues for all windows released games, just their own.  If you include PC gaming, MS is still in the red almost certainly.

Yes, of course you include the original Xbox.  MS does -- they promised this generation would bring profit to the xbox division from the beginning.  By itself, the 360 will probably never generate a profit overall, though.

Come on!!!!!! Get serious.

Microsoft hasn’t lost that much, and has a few quarters in the black.

They wrote of 1 Billion last financial year due to RROD.

Their losses include money which went to
  -owning Game IPs
-developing technology which has high value if resold/spun off

 - Increased brand awareness
 - Developing sales channels
 - Taught them alot of engineering issues
 - Building LIVE
 - Increasing market share
 - Moving developers from solely sony to a sony/MS
- Force sony to release their next console around the same time as MS next console as not to concede too much market share, while MS will benifit by having a longer time in the market before the next gen is released. ( My prediction is that sony will have 1 less year to recoup their development dollars on the PS3, as they won’t want to put a console on the market 1 year later than MS)

This spent money takes years to show itself their books as returned revenue.
