Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto: "Ninten-does what Sega don't!"

Damnit exindguy. You beat me to it. Anyone who disagrees with your first point needs to read the opening article again. He's is referring to making the games true to Nintendo's style and heritage and not trying to be like someone else. He doesn't suggest that Sega's games are of inferior quality.

people are wierd >.>

But hey like Bill Gates, this man is powerful within the industry - after he's gone there will be a gap in what is currently gaming.

He is what stands between different and half naked bald male space marines. Western developers show a tendancy to find what works and stick with it, this mans mentality on how games should be worked is amazing, capturing suddle changes while keeping to the Nintendo flavor can't be easy.

It's not every game you go out and buy knowing what to expect, but wanting it anyway because you know it will be good.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Honestly its impossible to have a conversation with anything negative about nintendo, its automatically destroyed.

Well hating on Nintendo is like hating on the Beatles or David Bowie or Citizen Kane.  You just have to live with the fact that you're basically nuts.  Even if you don't love them, you have to respect them for revolutionizing their form of art and making it what it is today.

While I would have a very very difficult time hating on any of the things you mentioned (especially Bowie), they're certainly not above criticism. I find the defensive reaction in this thread nothing short of shocking. First it was: "Sony and MS are worse", then "it's actually an honour just to be mentioned by him" to "he is infallible".

Respect him yes. Blindly believe everything is Hunky Dory or Sgt. Peppers, no.

All the same, I really didn't take the article as that much of an insult towards Sega so much as it was him wanting a distinct style. Just that some of the 'auto-defense' was rather bothersome.

Wow could you get any more pretentious?

So why the heck was he un-permabanned?  I'm already getting a bit tired of comments like these popping up everywhere again.

Everyone was unbanned when the news portal on VGChartz, http://news.vgchartz.com was created

But yea, the long absence obviously hasn't made leo-j cool down one bit.

I didn't think it was an insult either.  And I don't think he's infallible, but he's definitely in a different league than these younger loud-mouthed developers who are known more for their blogs than their games.

And I think if somebody were to take a game history course 20 years from now, about 50% of it would be about Miyamoto, 30% would be about the hardware advances, 15% would be about Will Wright, and 5% would be about everybody else.

And damn good Hunky Dory pun.  It made me laugh and then laugh a minute later when I was writing this.

Alright, a couple of complaints are enough - locking this thread.

And Leo - c'mon, get your act together. You really HAVE been around here for long enough to avoid those sort of comments :P

Talk about taking things out of context... Read this part again: "I'm always instructing my game designers on the history of the characters and worlds we've created," says Miyamoto.

All he said was "If our games start looking like Sega characters and worlds, we need to change them to make them look more distinctly Nintendo"

If anything this is a compliment to Sega as his people often like to make games that look like sega's designs. He isn't talking about the quality being sub par, he's talking about artistry much in the same way that Disney movies always looked disneyish until Walt died. All their movies had a very Disney only look to them.
