Forums - Gaming Discussion - How long will the increased sales of the ps3 last?

@darthdevidem01,this week sales are going to be high. The ps3 sales beat 360 sales this week by a double margin and the wii by a small margin. However it couldn't beat the ds. This information is already on the america week ending sales on june 14,20

By this week I mean....the PS3's sold this week so we will find out how much they sold in next weeks sales data

It really depends on how many 80gb units Sony sells to retail, because whatever hits retail will sell out within the day. Each BestBuy had about 30 80gb units and they all sold out within minutes.

Sales will be back to normal 3 weeks after MGS4's release.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I have to agree here. We have no way of knowing how many 80 GB units will be shipped and that is the most important factor in how fast/how much the PS3 will drop. If Sony keeps the 80 GBs rolling, it could stay at 80-100k in NA for weeks. If Sony launched the 80 GB in Europe I don't think the PS3 would drop below 200k for weeks......

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

MGS4 is a blockbuster release (and worth every penny) but can it exclusively (in NA at least) be attributed to why Sony is having such a successful month and is selling systems like hot cakes? Come on, folks, it's the return of BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY! Sales will continue to soar as long as Sony does 3 things: 1) Release a limited amount of bundles/BC models to have a like-effect on sales as Nintendo's highly successful psychological advertising has managed to move the casual gimmick machine - the "well, might as well get it now because there's no telling when I'll see it in stock again" mentality. 2) Keep the BC model available as a normal SKU or bring out the long rumored emulation for the 40GB SKU (would be good for JP/Others especially). 3) Get aggressive and go for MS's throat - don't allow MS to keep moneyhatting big exclusives and make it more attractive for third-party companies to push their products on the Sony platform. Rebuild the loyalty that existed on the PS2.

in japan ps3 sales will go down to about 30-35k this week and in the next week isales will be back to normal. in NA and others sales will be high this week, but ps3 won't sell more than wii. in next week everything will go back to normal.

so what you're saying is no one actually wants an 80g ps3 people are just being tricked into it?  gotcha.

sorry - i don't mean to be an ass but i'm just soo good at it.

It will last forever. Go the PS3.

sony are already preparing more 80gig consoles, so next week it might be a tad slow but will then pick up. you all have to look at fall 2007 where the 360 had many killer apps and a lower price point, yet more ps3 sold because more people want a ps3 worldwide than 360.

this trend will continue, and will further rocket forward when a possible price cut on ps3 happens.

regarding wii, well its mostly bought by family/casual/child gamers, so it should always be ahead, ps360>wii 110% and with no comparison what soever in gaming.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

i think in about 4 weeks they will fall to normal sales, but will be about 5k higher then usual

@kitler53
I can see where that misunderstanding could be made by my statement, but that isn't the point I'm trying to make. It isn't whether someone wants it or not, it's more of a "it's there I better get it before someone else does." There are still people riding the fence on which console they want to adopt this generation and stimulating such a psychological effect could quite possibly push the people to one side of the fence. Look at the sales of the 40GB, it's a rather unattractive SKU. Then here comes the 80GB BC model and sales exploded through the roof. But Sony only released a VERY limited supply of this bundle. Now it's out and people want the 80GB model, and by keeping supply low, it'll make people even more rabid for it and jump at it whenever available. Makes sense, doesn't it?
