Forums - Sony Discussion - Top 10 Reasons To Keep the PS3 Dream Alive

SOURCE N4G.COM

My post yesterday about the "Top 10 Reasons to Keep the PS3 Dream Alive" really sparked some heavy debate. It seems to me that most gamers are inclined to latch on to one system and think negatively about the others in the race. That attitude is simply not a great one to have. I know many Xbox Fanboys want to see the PS3 go down in flames and vice versa. The question I raise here is; what possible good could come out of one system winnig the next-gen war? The answer is obvious. If only one system rules, we'd have a monopoly and see game prices skyrocket. Right now, competition is driving prices down and encouraging quality game production. Right now, we should all want 3 systems to be in the mix of things. Too many people are judging the PS3 on early system sales. Trust me when I say this, the Sony PS3 will be a strong competitor in the future. I'll be completely honest, I play the Xbox 360 more than any other system, but I refuse to allow myself to become a system loyalist. It's better for us as gamers to keep our options and opinions open for the future. All it's going to take is a couple awesome games for the PS3 to all of a sudden be popular. That's simply how the world works. My original top ten list follows the break.

  • 10. You simply have to give it some more time.
  • 09. You cannot deny the power of the cell processor. I predict we will start seeing a great difference between PS3 performance and Xbox 360 performance as the next generation gets into full swing.
  • 08. Backward compatibility with the PS2 collection (one of the best console collections in history I might add).
  • 07. The price will eventually drop. I can’t say when, but it’s unavoidable.
  • 06. Can anyone say “Gran Turismo 5’?
  • 05. The PS3 is embracing the future of Bluetooth technology.
  • 04. PlayStation Home
  • 03. If Blu-Ray wins the next generation movie battle, the PS3 makes for a cheap Blu-Ray player
  • 02. Unchartered: Drake’s Fortune. This could be the big hit they are waiting for.
  • 01. Can anyone say “Gran Turismo 5’?

Well, yeah. It is too early to say it is doomed, but it is also too early to predict how succesful it is going to be...

Just for fun:

#10: We need to keep it alive because... we need to keep it alive. Ran out of reasons?

#9: Shrug, folding showed it can be used for good. Up to developers to show how it can be used for gaming.

#8: Yeah, cept for horrible scaling and not allowing some of their more popular and still amazingly well selling games to work on it. When the marketing cry is "Buy a new 600 dollar system that will play your old games worse and without rumble" fire a lot of people.

#7: See number 10.

#6: Yep. A 14 million selling game in history ain't bad.

#5: So.... like everything else? A claim to wait is that it's adopting not first, but about at the same rate?

#4: Second Life without furries sounds... well, still as bad as second life. Though it's popular. New, fake life without keyboard!

#3: Already cheaper Players out there.

#2: If it outsells Gran Turismo, certainly, but untested, and even damn great games don't always sell well. Which is a shame, but people buy what they buy.

#1: Once more, ran out of reasons?

Yeah. I have read the scaling is bad, especially with BR movies. Reason why I am waiting till late 2008. Maybe HDTV's will be a lot cheaper. I read that if you have a TV below 40", 1080p looks only slightly better than 720p, so I will see if I can get a 50" cheap by then.

this is no dream, it reality.

Lair
Heavenly Sword
Warhawk
Socom
Rachet and Clank
Resistance2
Little Big Planet
Uncharted
Killzone
MGS4
Final Fantasy 13
Final Fantasy Versus
White Night Story
Gran Turismo 5

I'm Feeling very negative after that post, so let's see if I can give 10 reasons to give the Ps3 a chance:

#10: They have noticed a mistake. I once was blind but now I see, they are suddenly noticing their original offering is giving them poor sales. So they are likely going to concentrate on giving more value than telling us to work extra hours to buy their console.

#9: Free near seamless online play. So far, been quite positive as I've experienced it.

#8: Maybe finally can make game previews that are clearly from cutscenes a reality.

#7: Generally fantastic game franchises have pledged support still. Even if they may be expanding in some form, they havn't outright just left the PS3, though they may be tempted.

#6: PSP control: A very remote way of accessing your console to perhaps change the media on your PSP, start downloading a new program from their catalogue etc.

#5: Blue ray does provide a potential gaming experience like no other, far larger than current PC games with size.

#4: If you're into it, Blue Ray Movies.

#3: No more batteries for the controllers, just USB and charge.

#2: If Sony fails, the fanboy crying will never cease. Who wants to hear "But but but Microsoft is evil and Nintendo is ruining games" for the next 5 years?

#1: If the system becomes re-established, it will likely resume it's status as a RPG haven (Hey, if the above list can be genre specific, so can I).

So, I kinda ran out. But not really. #2 Would really piss me off.
