Forums - Sony Discussion - Everytime Sony announces a first party game, it's always Questioned.

No i mean it, like every single one.

Lair was questioned about whether it was a good or bad game, it turned out bad.

Heavenly Sword was questioned, it turned out average.

Ratchet & Clank: TOD was questioned, it turned out good yet too short for everyone.

Resistance: FOM was questioned, turned out good yet gamers said "It's no Halo"

Motorstorm was questioned, turned out decent, yet gamers said "It's boring"

Killzone/Heavy Rain/Infamous/White Knight Story although have not been released yet, have all been put into question whether it will be good or not.

- Killzone 1 for being bad, they don't have high hopes for KZ 2 even though Killzone Liberation was better

- Heavy Rain being too movie like, not enough gameplay.

- White Knight Story for not having an engaging battle system

Gran Turismo Prologue, despite excellent reviews, people say "It's a demo, not a real game"

Littlebigplanet in particular has recieved the most put into question, even though people who have played it said it is going to be the most innovative game ever, 360 fanboys in particular would say "What's the point of the game??"

Even MGS4 is being panned with "Too many cutscenes" or "Installs" despite it's gameplay being impressive.

The biggest Irony is between Haze and Too Human. Both have recieved huge ass delays, yet it was Haze that was said to be not so good before it even came out which it wasn't. But for Too Human, people are saying it's going to be "Awesome" even though they were the same people who said delays is not a good thing for the game which means it isn't good.

The point is, every single first party game Sony announces, it will be put into question and generally negative each time. Why is that? Why are first party Microsoft games always praised even without screenshots, trailers or little details of that game?

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with their track record. As you've conveniently pointed out, the games they've released in the past have had limited appeal. People come to expect more of the same limited appeal, and are critical of games which promise to break free from that when evidence suggests they won't.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

You forgot to mention Uncharted

by your description I don't blame them for questioning Sony. Sounds like they have been putting out a lot of mediocre games. You didn't list a single game and say it was great. If all these games turn out "ok" then of course people are going to question the next one.

Also, MSG4 isn't first party.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I think most of the criticism is fair.  Although I think some of those assessments were off.

Everyone thought Lair was going to be awesome until just before release when it all fell apart when people (including myself) started to play it.

Heavenly Sword is mostly just considered too short.

R&C seems to be well liked.

Resistance is an average shooter that people wanted to try to compare with Gears of War because of the release timing.  Truth is, it is just an average shooter

GT Prologue is $40 for 1/10th of GT5.  I call that a ripoff.

LBP does look fun and innovative, but it is just going to be a nice addition to the console, not a system seller or anything that large.

MGS4 looks like it is delivering pretty much what people expected.  Some people don't like the heavy cutscenes but everyone expected the gameplay to be good so I don't think there were any surprises there.

Haze was another game that started to show signs of weakness just before launch.  We cant say anything about Too Human until it gets close to release.

I think the problem is the expectations versus delivery.  Many games that PS3 owners have been waiting for have not met up to the expectations they have heaped upon them.

I give this thread a 9.5

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

Oh, and Resistance and Ratchet are not 1st party, but many of those have average reviews in the high 80's
Oh, and people love to hate Sony

Maybe it's because sony hypes these various games out the ass, and yet it's totally up in the air whether any of these overly-hyped games are going to follow through on any of what they've promised.

I mean, sure, they COULD be good, but they also COULD be bad. People are constantly getting badgered with hype to build up our expectations and it's just as likely that all our hopes and built up dreams will be answered as it is that we'll be utterly disappointed.

so yeah, when you have an inconsistent track record (not BAD, just inconsistent) then it brings people to question on which end of the inconsistency the results are going to fall.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

That 'it's just a demo' thing for GT5:P annoys me, even PS3 fans who appear to own the game say that and I can't fathom why given the amount of content in there.

GT5:P is great, i agree people bitch about it too much, its a great preview of GT5, its alot more than just a demo and i have never regretted spending £20 on it. IMO its better than many full games.
