Excuse me, but have you only read the topic's title ??

It by itself puts the Original Poster to shame.

Im sorry but wtf? People like you are the ones that are in shame. I have done nothing wrong, i have posted an official press release and vgcharts numbers are lower then the press release, so why shouldnt the numbers be changed.

Who are you to give orders to ioi !? One "maybe" or a "why not" in your title should have shown respect to the creator of this site and his work.

That is all i had to say in this topic.

Incase you haven't noticed their is a limit on how many words you can fit into a title of a thread so i only had enough room to fit the basics. Also again incase you haven't noticed this is the internet where people state their opinions and don't have to ask, just like you didnt say to me 'why not' 'maybe' you should have said to ioi 'maybe' or 'why not' when asking to change the numbers, you just told me i should have said that because thats your opinion. Just like its my opinion the numbers should be changed, no big deal chill out.

@Blowfish, I understand where your coming from but the companies basically lie through their teeth.

A good example of this (as I used on the other thread) is when MS announced that they had 'sold' 10M xbox360's, which turned out to be sold to retailers rather than consumers. Nexgenwars believed them which is why their 360 sales are over a million higher than VGchartz.

Anybody that knows about sales numbers knew that when microsoft said sold it really meant shipped. The difference here is sony has gone out of their way to stress this is not a shipped number but a sold number.

You're right nobody knows the exact numbers. Fact is only sony has sonys numbers. Whatever paided third party sales trackers this site has access to, sony will have access to them as well. So the fact is sony knows more about how many ps3's were sold then this site does. Sony didnt come out and just say they have sold a million, they have said they have sold OVER a million. So just calling it at a million is less then what sony have said in the first place.

So you're going to put all your stock into a company that has a vested interest in reporting high numbers?

As someone who has worked in advertising and PR for the past 7 years, I wouldn't trust those numbers with a ten foot pole. I doubt they're far off the mark (VGC isn't far from their numbers), but I also doubt they're picking a conservative estimate and publicising that.

Im trusting the people who have access to more information than this website and they say over one million so if you want to talk about an over top estimate taking the over 1 million figure and just calling it just 1 million is still less then what sony says.

look, I have an idea for you, if it will make you happy. Are you ready:

1) Take VGChartz numbers for all consoles.
2) multiply by 1.05

how's that? Do you feel better now? Now the PS3 has 1 million and you can sit there in the sure knowledge that VGChartz is undertracking the "real" numbers, while we all sit here with our "inferior" numbers.

If it makes you happy, you can even only apply the above formula to those consoles you like. Then the PS3 will look even better!

Because in the end, the truth is these numbers are here for all our benifits. It's not like any less or more consoles will be sold because ioi has stated these numbers. If you believe them to be in error by 5%, then add 5% to the numbers. But don't tell us to change when everyone else is happy.

Wow talk about being insecure. Im fine, im happy, i don't need to feel any better. All i did was post an official press release and silly me for thinking that the numbers should have been changed to match it. Alot of people have become very defensive over nothing.

As ever I feel proud to have inadvertantly created this forum, where 95% of posters post intelligent, level-headed responses when somebody tries to attack the site and understand exactly where I am coming from with the figures, what they mean, and how they are arrived at.

Thank you guys!

Whilst i'll repeat myself again, i generally like your work, numbers and what you have done with this website i have not 'tried to attack your website'.

Finding a good article on the matters and reading it myself, is a lot different then reading it from here without a link.

So here's a great article with David Reeves President and CEO, SCEE

http://www.mcvuk.com/opinion/32/The-PS3-powers-on

You know if Blue3 hadn't been a retard saying that 1.05 million were sold even though Sony claims 1million and if Blowfish would of put the whole article with the link then the numbers would of probably of been changed by now...

The info in this article is interesting

 1) SCEE claims that UK accounts for 25% of its PAL region sales

"In terms of breakdown by Euro territories, the UK did very well. They are probably up to 25 per cent of business, so have made a great star. And we’re particularly pleased with Iberia and France. They are neck and neck."

2) SCEE numbers includes all PAL Territories -  Australia, China, India, and Iberia??? Where's Iberia??

I'm not a PS3 fan... but I do believe that these numbers are legit and that the "Europe & Others" on the main page is off.

But I don't get what the big hoopa is all about... VGchartz numbers where off by 50,000 consoles.. That's awesome considering it's freaking europe and others!! Everyone should be congratulating IOI and is team!

... There's too many dumbass's on this forum.

I'm not sure if you are joking or not, as this has been mentioned so many times it's kinda hard to believe anyone is serious about this anymore.  It's actually the slowest selling Playstation, because vgchartz doesn't have the "others" data for the other 2.  It was about even with them up to the European launch, but the lack of a boost compared to the PS2 sales without the European launch (Sony's largest market) makes the situation not great for Sony.  Again, no one but the rabid  fanboys ever claims the PS3 will die, but a cold hard look at the numbers shows it's not going to match the success of either of it's predecessors.  Still, this is nowhere near a bad situation.  Add to that the fact that the PSP will probably end the generation with 30-40 million in sales and Sony is doing just fine.  Yeah, it's a profit sink, but they are surviving in the industry.  I know myself and a lot of the other older gamers have gotten used to the fact that success does not last in gaming.  The younger gamers who started in the Playstation era didn't really understand that till this generation.  It's a fickle market and it changes on a dime.  It's just Sony's time to be on the bottom.  That doesn't mean they will never be on the top again.

The validity of that statement (the whole sentence, not just the "PS3 will die" part) depends on the definition of dying. I'd say it will either die or be in a long coma, supported by Sony's pockets. Some other people say so too, and I don't think they're all rabid fanboys.

It's pretty hard to believe it will ever actually die.  It's following the gamecube and N64 sales tracks pretty clearly.  Neither of them died, so I doubt the PS3 will.
