Yes, but it's a violent shooter and the same general market type. Markets aren't divided by rating

Dude, Manhunt and Red Steel aren't even in the same category. You might want to play both games before stating things as facts.

This is maybe the third  post that misinterpreted Naznatips' post. People need more book learnin skills.

because the gamecube was the PS3 of it's generation... people weren't willing to cut it any slack. With wii, not only is it not purple, but it is also much more accepted and less discriminated against among hardcore gamers. It wouldn't have mattered if every game on the GC was an M game... as long as mario showed his face here and there people didn't care about the M games and slapped the "KIDDIEZ" sticker on the GC. With the Wii though nintendo has a clean slate, so to speak, and can sway gamers away from the "kiddy" stereotype with their "wii is for anyone and everyone" style of marketing and, of course, games like manhunt 2.

when the wii is the only next-gen system to have manhunt 2 that speaks volumes for how "un-kiddy" it really is. If anything nintendo will need to prove that the wii isn't a mini-game hive... hopefully with the games coming later this year it will shatter that preconcieved notion as well.

That line right there made me almost not read what else you had to say. So the sales of the Gamecube weren't stellar because it had that "kiddie" stigma attached?

Nintendo being associated with the kiddie image was started by SEGA and extrapolated indirectly by Sony when people looked at the library that was available on the PSX compared to that of the N64. It doesn't mean that the N64 and Gamecube didn't have their share of mature games, and it doesn't mean that the Wii won't have it's share of mature games, but will this one title get rid of that association?

He may be linking the GC to the PS3 for the wrong reasons, but put those two together in a chart and gaze at the similarities.  Both consoles get crap from opposing fans...and the success of the opposition is cutting down support...on the GC and the PS3.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

You beat me too it Xyrax.

Yup, This decision was more Nintendo's than rockstars. With one game, Nintendo can deal a good sized slap to it's "Kiddy image" by having the most violent and twisted game on it. It's the kind of negative publicity that you can't buy (actually you can, and I wouldn't be suprised if that's what Nintendo did).

So why not GTA? My guess it'd just be too much time, work and money to make a completely new Game, as GTA IV couldn't be pulled off on the Wii hardware. Doesn't mean we won't see future GTA titles, but they'd have to be different games to fit the Wii.

Manhunt 2 will not "slap it's kiddy image." If Eternal Darkness, the various Resident Evils, and other multi-platform games didn't help the Gamecube, whose to say that Manhunt 2 will convince those few for the Wii?

I said it would deal a slap to that image, not get rid of it. And there's a difference between this game and those you mention. Those are more mature titles, yes. But they didn't exactly cause controversy. Manhunt 2 is already getting media attention. Good old Jack Thompson is trying to sue (or boycott or something stupid) wendy's for selling Wii toys, because the Wii will have this game.

Manhunt 2 is definately going to bring publicity to the Wii for it's ability to have incredibly violent games. And not just having those kind of releases, but having a control method that allows you to actually be violent. I can promise you you'll see news stories when this game is released about people using the Wiimote to strangle, saw and disembowel people. It's the kind of controversy that the Ps2 thrived on, and now it's coming to the Wii.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Well whats your point? We all KNOW a single game wont get rid of the association. A library of them however can. And how do you build a library? One game at a time. How many games is manhunt? One.

Should be able to connect the dots from there.  If they want to attempt and carve out a section of that market, one game at a time is the way to do it. And they are starting with MH, RS etc.
